Road Tar in Tire Treads

Good morning all, after this brutal winter and the road repairs that are in progress, I found myself the recipient of 6" round patches of road tar attached to my drivers side tires smack dab in the middle and deep into the treads. I first tried a flat headed screwdriver to pry it out, but it was too soft. I subsequently went online and found recommendations that made me concerned about compromising the rubber. Then I had an idea. Here in Connecticut there has been a fair amount of new road construction on the highways, and the rumble strips in some areas are pretty clean. I scoped out a few sections of highway where the strips were straight, long and clean and drove on it for about two 1/8 mile runs. The end result was nothing short of amazing!!!! Most of the road tar was gone, even between the treads. I will not embarrass myself with attempting to explain the mechanics behind it, but I hope that this will help people who find themselves in a similar situation over this road repair season.
