Need new set of wheels for my G
Need new set of wheels for my G
Hello Everyone,
Newbie here. I bought a 2009 Infiniti G37xS AWD sedan towards the end of last year. Haven't really done anything to it but wanted to maybe get into it this summer. First order of business, it has old worn out all-season tires that need replacing ASAP. I'm thinking of getting a new set of 19-inch rims with tires for the summer, and putting on winter tires on the stock 18-inch rims when the time comes. Currently I debating 3 different options for my summer set and need help making a decision:
1. Niche M130 Targa rims with Continental Extreme Contact DW tires
235/35/19x8.5 with 35+ offset
Pros: Good quality tires and rims, getting a good price on them as well.
Cons: I think the offset might be too small as normally the recommended offset for the sedan is 37-47
2. 5Zigen Sport Engine SC3000 rims with Nitto NT555 or Falken FK451 tires
235/40/19x8.5 with 38+ offset
Pros: Better offset, hence better fit
Cons: Skeptical of the Japanese brand and quality
3. Advan Connoisseurs 51c rims with Pirelli p7000 tires staggered
Front 235/40/19x8.5 with 44+ offset
Rear 265/40/19x9.5 with 40+ offset
Pros: Good quality rims and tires, high offset
Cons: I've read bad things about stagger on an AWD
Let me know what you guys think. Really confused so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the site, moved over to this folder to keep on topic
Your first two choices are quite a drop from the Advans so it sounds like you've got a wide range as far as budget.
For the price point of the Advans I'd look at wheels from the Work Emotion line, nice choices and various color finishes, good offsets too
Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: Emotion
For a bit less the SSR GTV line are quality wheels for nice pricing
Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: GTV01
Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: GTV02
Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: GTV03
As far as offsets, for the following wheel widths on stock suspension (not lowered) I'd go with~ 8.5" +35, 9" +40, 9.5" +45
For those widths I'd run 245/40/19s on them, you'll be slightly stretched on a 9.5 but will be a good fit at the fenders.
Tires are up to you, many good choices and if your budget isn't limited I'd go w/ Michelin Pilot Super Sport, for a smaller bankroll the Toyo T1 Sports are a good buy.
As far as staggered, you MUST be very careful w/ tire sizing, it can be done but your front to rear diameters shouldn't vary more than 1% and much better if you're virtually zero variance.
If you want to look at staggered there's options available.

Hello Brad,
Thanks for the help. I guess I should mention that the first 2 options are new, whereas option 3 is used. Hence, all 3 work out to be at the same price point.
Although the Advans are in very good condition with just some curb rash I was planning on getting touched up
I guess my real question is which one of the 3 options would fit my car best in terms of performance? I'm still a bit new to this tire math so I'm having trouble determining which set would be the best fit
I sort of understand what you mean by 8.5" +35, 9" +40, 9.5" +45 offset. But then, by that logic, won't the front (235/40/19x8.5 with 44+) on option 3 be bad? Like I don't understand how the front has a higher offset than the back there??? Also, how do I determine if the front to rear diameters for option 3 vary by 1%, more, or less?
Sorry, if any of these are stupid questions

OK, so you're wheel budget (at least going by the two new sets) would be in the $1200 range for wheels.
The Advan wheels will work, the front will be tucked in a bit but you can always get a spacer if you want it more flush to the fender. The tires won't work for your AWD but you
could keep the rear 265/40s and go with new 235/45/19s in front this would put your variance front to back at a scant 0.07%, the combo as it is (w/ the 235/40s would be over 3%) To figure variance and other measurements this handy calculator will help

If you want to go w/ new and a squared setup I think I'd give the nod to that Niche set, many over here have them and get good reviews. I'd run a 245/40/19 on those.
HTHs,

Thanks again Brad! Things actually make much more sense now
With some help from you, I think I just qualified for my bachelor's in wheel alignment and fitting
Here are some other good links that helped explain things really well:

I think at this point stagger is out, otherwise decision to come soon! Btw, any other brand suggestions for rims/tires in terms of most bang (performance) for buck?

The Miro wheels are a nice look w/ deep concave, and Autoanything has some nice deals w/ the 146520 promo code

I'd run a 19x8.5 +35 on 245/40/19 tires
You could run the 19x9.5 +40 in back if you decide to stagger

Also check around the site for other wheels you might like, there's another promo code REDHOT that may or may not apply to other brands.

That car bible site is great!
There is one thing that's kinda bugging me though, you (and others) recommended going with 245/40/19. But compared to the stock 225/50/18 the tire calculation gives that as a difference in circumference of -10.85mm or -0.53% variance. i.e. car bible translates that as: if I'm traveling 70mph, I'm actually doing 69.63mph. Not sure if that is wrong way to look at it, but that to me seems like a loss in efficiency. Isn't the point of putting on wider tires to boost efficiency/performance? So should I be looking for a new setup that results in a positive variance?
