TPMS sensors on custom wheels

I just installed new 18x9" TSW wheels on my 2013 G37s. I can't get the TPMS sensors to reset. The light was out at first and then came on after 15 miles or so. I went Back to my tire dealer who reset them with his scan tool but they came back on after about 25 miles. The sensors are on the back side of the rims. Do I need to have the dealer reset them? Will they not work with after market wheels?

Why would he have to reset them in the first place?

If they just swapped them, the correct way they should have been fine. Example of the correct way to swap them. Stock wheel drivers side front sensor to the new drivers side front wheel, etc.

My understanding is that the car is paired with a set of TPMS. I wonder if the tire shop actually removed the paring?
Zoster33 is correct, there is no reason to reset them, the car will recognize them.

I would have thought they would rest too but they have not. Even after being reset with a scan tool the light came back on.

Let me just blurt out something that may have been overlooked.

Are all your tires set to 35 psi? lol

If they mounted any of the wheels on the wrong side, TPMS light might be on, the ecu is expecting each sensor to be in the same general location.

Talked to dealer, they said may not be able to run non staggered wheels on sport car. Any body heard of this or have tried this?

What dealership did you go to?

The sensor doesn't care if the wheels are staggered or not!
It is a pressure based sensor. Comes on at about 30 psi.

Yeah staggering the wheels have nothing to do with TPMS. Most of the info I ever got from the dealership is usually wrong, expecially if it has to do with non OEM parts so don't listen to them.

Your dealer techs are a bunch of IDIOTS

You can run staggered and non staggered on ANY car that is not AWD.

I have a coupe in 6MT sport trim running 8.5inch wheels all around with 245/40/19 ALL around with ZERO issues.

Staggering of wheels/tires has NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to do with your TPMS.

Once again, your dealer techs are retarded.

That is what I thought. I have put aftermarket wheels on many cars and never had issues with the tpms sensors until now. I had a 2012 Nissan NV van and every time we rotated the tires the TPMS sensors were an issue. Had to use a scanner to reset them. I am going to the dealer Friday and see if they can reset them.
