TPMS dash light reset

I’m still new around here and last night went looking into the DIY folder for the first time and saw the thread about resetting the TPMS light.
Does this only apply when replacing a sensor(s), or anytime a tire loses pressure, or anytime the tire is off the car for a certain length of time?

Last month I got my hands on a set of winters on wheels without TPMS. A day after installing them on the car, the dash light came on.
Am I going to have to reset the light when I go back to the OEM’s in the Spring, or will the light extinguish itself after a day.

Seems easy enough to do, but a scam if you can't reset it yourself.

Thanks

It will reset by itself if you go back to wheels with the TMPS that are synced to your car.

correct normally it will take a few miles of driving with the sensors in for the car to recognize and pick them up so dont be shocked if the light doesnt go off right away

That's what I found surprising when I took the OEM wheels off. I removed them, put on the winters and went for a 6-7 minute drive to test the winters... no light. Went out that night, which consisted of about four 5-10 minute drives... no light. Next day drive 15 minutes to work and half way there, the light turns on. I was starting to think maybe the winter wheels had their own sensors, and from reading the reset post, I know realize that even if there were some, they wouldn't be recognized by the car.

Anyways, glad to hear I should be trouble-free come Spring.
