Talking Winter tires for 18x9 wheels

Hi all,
I'm thinking about ordering a set of 18x9 OZ Formula HTL for a square setup. The offsite for that wheel is 35mm. Will that have a near flush fit? For winter tires, I was thinking about getting the 235/50-18 tire size.

Do you think fit-wise/drivability I will have any problems for my IPL?

Thanks!!!

Matt

You''ll be a bit inside the fender w/ that offset and 235 width tire, if you can get a +30 that would be a better fit at the fender, if not you can use spacers if the fit isn't as flush as you want. Are you going to use these wheels for summer too? If so I'd run 265s on those 9" for summer.

I was chatting a TR agent, he said I will need to go with 245/45-18 instead of 235/50-18.

Now I am confused.

To not screw up the odometer, is more important to match the front or rear OEM tire height when going from 19" to 18" wheels?

Stock wheels are:
Front: 225/45-19
Rear: 245/40-19

As for the 9" wide wheel, I can use a 235 wide tire as long as it is within the "Rim Width Range" spec, right?

The 235 is a bit of an off size, the 245/45/18 is closer to your OEM diameter size, and it's a better mount on a 9" rim.

My understanding is the narrower the tire the better it is for handling in the snow. So I would prefer 235 over 245 if possible. If I'm reading the x-ice tire spec correctly for the 235/45-18 tire, a 9" wide wheel should be compatible.

However, I'm not sure in real life application if that will make the tire 'weaker' due to it being stretched to the max compatible wheel width.

8 to 9.5" is the recommended wheel width for a standard mount on 235/45/18s, and yes, the narrower tread block will cut though the snow better than a wider tire which will tend to "plow" through it. The diameter difference from OEM will be just over 1% which is certainly acceptable.

Here's a good wheel/tire page FWIW (pg 4 of a 4 pg thread)
