All-Seasons for the snow- G37X

I'm still running the Goodyear RSAs with about 21,000 miles on them. They are horrible in the snow/ice in Minnesota.

I'm debating between dedicated winter wheels or a good all season. $700 for all seasons or $2000 for snows + another set wheels for summer.

I know the snows will be superior but will the DWS be good enough?

Anyone have experience with the Conti DWS in the snow with an AWD sedan?

Thanks!

I had the DWS on my previous car, which was FWD, and they did a fine job at getting me around in Chicago's winter. I never found myself stuck or feeling unsafe. With that being said, even the worst dedicated winter tire will be better than the DWS in snow and ice. I realize that may not help very much, but it's never an easy question to answer. On one hand you have the convenience of keeping the same tires on year round, the other has the added grip of winter tires. The DWS is a safe bet, it's a great tire, and miles ahead of any other all season tire as far as snow performance is concerned.

Thanks for the input. Yes I had the DWS on my FWD TL and they were solid in the snow. However the G37x is a different animal since it's RWD most of the time. When I'm turning onto a road the rear wheels spin and then the traction control kicks in and the car basically stops. Maybe I need to turn off the traction control...

I'm trying to decide this same thing. I've had pretty poor experiences using all-season tires in the snow on cars (even awd), but have had great experiences with winter tires. Right now there are some half-worn all season tires on the G and they are terrible in the snow we just got. I think I'll be putting snow tires on the stock rims and getting a different set of wheels/tires for the summer. I know it's more expensive, but it is also MUCH SAFER.

I've always done it this way for every car I've owned. If you live in a climate that sees significant amounts of snow, dedicated snow tires are the best bet. The front end cost is expensive, but the tires also get used half as much and last much longer.

I think I'll do the same. Snows on the 17" OEM rims. New 18's for the summer.
