Opinions on V versus W rated AS3s
Opinions on V versus W rated AS3s
I'm such a technocrat when it comes to things - tires are no different. I've been vacillating between Hankook Ventus S1 and Michelin AS3 all season tires as replacements for my current Dunlops.
My latest thoughts are getting the AS3s. I've always been a Michelin fan, so why change now. My conundrum now involves the V versus W rated AS3s. Both tires are similarly rated. The biggest difference being the higher speed rating on the Ws. The W weighs less than .5 pounds more than the V, so I suppose the W sidewall may be slightly stiffer (but not much). Given the small differences, I don't suppose the ride characteristics will be much different. That said, I can buy the Vs for roughly $70-$80 less (per set) than the Ws. Since absolute handling limits are not my priority (if they were, I'd get the Ws or a summer tire), I'm leaning toward getting the Vs. My current OEM Dunlop is V rated.
Have any of you had similar experiences with this type of buying decision? Do any of you run the AS3 V rated tire?

I think you mostly answered your own question here. Since that isn't a priority, you'll find no noticeable difference worth paying more for. Get he V rated and call it a day..
compared to mxv4s ive had before.. those performed and were an overal better tire and i dont consider those performance tires at all... im not impressed at all by the a/s3 just all the hype and everything .. again maybe its cuz their 17's and v rated but they were NOT a good choice for my 08x
