Curbed up one of my wheels

Well went to Fedex this morning and was parallel parking and apparently the curb isn't entirely straight all the way across. Curbed up damn near half my front right wheel. If you were in my position would you purchase a new wheel (those of you who know what they cost) Or would you pay 100-125 to have it repaired?

If I followed everything correctly, these are the Rays LE wheels and you got them for $164 a piece. If you have the ability to get that price still, I would recommend buying another. The finish on those wheels will not be easy to match, so you may find yourself in a situation where you feel compelled to buy a new one anyways. The price difference of about $40 is negligible. You could sell the curbed wheel and make back more money than that.

If you dont sell it, then you can throw the curbed on in the corner of the garage as a spare in case one cracks or bends down the line and they are not readily available to you at a good price.

Yup and the price is still available. I guess you are right about the hypersilver finish being hard to match.

I am extremely picky, so I would almost undoubtedly find an issue with the finish of the wheel after it is redone. There are a lot of factors I would notice such as clearcoat finish, color match, quality of curb rash smoothing, etc. I had a very small bit of curb rash repaired on my new car as a condition of sale and to me it is noticeable. The texture of the wheel is slightly off in that area and they had to smooth an area to get the rash out. In the grand scheme of things, this was a very small area and isn't a big deal (about 1-2 inches). I would never expect someone else to know it was done, due to the size. For what you described, they will have to redo the whole wheel, which leaves more room for error.

I would use the excuse to get a different set of aftermarket wheels.

The idea of purchasing a new single wheel and having the curbed as a spare sounds like a good idea too.

Well I just bought these a couple of months ago, they are 4 19x9 9 spoke RAYS for the anniversary edition convertible. Looking at eBay I might be able to sell the curbed wheel for more than I paid for it new. The rash is just on the lip and is about 1/4 of the way around. the face itself is just fine. Maybe I should just live with it.

Right, which is why I said use the excuse to get a different set. But that's just the wheel ***** in my head talking. HAH

If you think you can flip the wheel on eBay, then that may be an even better idea! But that would still mean you would have to get another wheel first right? Plus, like you said, you might not be happy with any repair done to it.

I don't see how that is possible. You're going to see it every time you go to the car. Whenever you even think about the car, one of the checklist items in your head is that fcked up wheel. It's going to drive you nuts. Your relationships will suffer. You might develop an eating disorder. Not good, man.

Just buy a replacement wheel, and consider this a matching spare.

The price you paid for 5 wheels is still a much better deal than most have done w/ four

I agree wholeheartedly. You made the right decision to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
