Exclamation OEM Yokohama Tire problems

I took my car out of temporary winter storage this week. Actually the car is stored outside under a car shelter. I started the car on a regular basis and took the car for a drive around the block on sunny, dry days. So it wasn't as if the car just sat there all winter. So the problem can't be that the tires are dry. I went for an inspection of the tires today and found out that there are cracks in the grooves of the tires. (The cracks are not on the sidewall) All 4 tires are 225/45/19 as the car is an X (AWD). The fronts have almost no wear on the car. The car was purchase in July of 2012 and has only 23,000 KMS or 14,000 miles! The rear are a bit over borderline however they would have been good for another summer. I was planning on changing them to a wider tire anyway. All 4 tires have this problem. The dealer said that they will check with the tire rep for Infiniti. Has anyone here every heard of this problem or seen this before? I've never ever seen this and I've been driving for many years! Just for the record the cracks are along the circumference of the tire....Very weird!

Wow! Not one comment? Ok anyone here have recent tire problems? How was it resolved? Maybe that's a better approach....

I have a problem with my Yokohamas.
They are over $1,600.00 to replace all 4.
It's time to get corporate on the line, if the tire has more than 2/32nd of tread.
Yokohama is supposed to pro rate, I'm so aggravated.
Car only has 10k on her, the edges are down to nothing.
Rest of tire has a ton of thread.
Ill post my end result, once I get them on the phone.

sounds like dry rot.
You shouldnt store a vehicle outside for long periods of time regardless of the weather.

The car was started and moved almost every week during the winter. Also the humidity level under the car shelter was normal. The car was even driven on the local streets to keep things moving on cold dry sunny days.

My car is garaged & I don't take it out in snow or rain.
If alignment & suspension are all in spec, how can this happen.
If Yokohama does nothing, this will be my last set.
At $1,600.00 +tax I'm disgusted with how they are worn so uneven.

hmmm...

That's weird. Have you looked up the exact tires you have to see what the weather rating on them is? They might not be rated for winter weather. Find a tire shop in your area that is a authorized Yokohama dealer and have them inspect the tires for warranty issues.

I'm from Florida so my knowledge on winter tires is limited, lol.

Yokohamas are usually fairly good tires though. Personally, I recommend Falkens if you do not get anywhere with Yokohama (that's like 80% of what I sell at my business). They have a fancy new all weather tire that's actually really nice. The Falken ZE950. Look into them if you get a chance.

The Yokohama' s are a summer tire, it's like half the tire is worn out & the rest has 8/32nd of tread left. I appreciate the info, any advice on tires at this point I'm open to all suggestions to fix this mess.

Just to throw my $.02 i................I find it interesting that car guys buy high end tires for regular commuting. Thos tires are for the race track and most have a soft compound which not only doesn't store well but wears fast, because of the traction needed at high speeds and hard breaking that a normal car doens't endure in most instances. As a motocycle road racer, tire compound is important...if you're on the track. If you're on the streets, the harder the compound (normally found in cheaper tires) the longer the wear.

Except the title of this thread says OEM, meaning these are the tires that came on the car.

xorbitman, surface cracks in tire rubber do not always mean a real problem.

The tire rep may want to pull one or more off the car for a look inside; I would wait to see what he (she?) says...

The Yokohama tires in question are likely the OEM Yokohama Advan Ultra High Performance All Seasons which should hold up OK under winter driving and short periods of winter inactivity. They are the same tire that came on my 2011xs and lasted 30,000 miles under slightly "spirited" driving but they were the noisiest friggin tires I have ever driven. I could not wait to replace them with a set of Michelin AS/3's. There was no way I was spending $300+ per tire to replace the Yoko's.

Just replaced my OEM Yokohama's they were good for the first 15k then became noisy as all hell. Got rid of them around 22k replaced them with the new Hankook noble S2's they're an ultra high performance all season (oxymoron) but so were the Yoko's so far about 1500 miles on them and already like them better than OEM equipment. Also about half the price too! Also went with 245/45/19 all around much better high speed stability compared to the small 225's that came with the car.

Just an update regarding last year's tire problem with my Yokohama's. So Yokohama did admit a certain amount of liablilty though my dealer had to intervene. My claims manager at the dealer had to go through corporate (infiniti/Nissan) and this took a few weeks. In the end I asked Yokohama if I could upgrade my tires from 225/45/19 8.5 to 245/40/19 and they agreed. I had to pay out of my pocket however I saved a lot of $$$ and in the end everyone especially me were happy. I much prefer the 245....wider and more agressive. I wanted staggered like 275 in the rear but Infinit said because my car's and X (AWD) they recommended that I stick with the same size all around. They also said that 255 was out of spec. I'm lowered on Tanabe Sustec Pro and I believe that I'm the first 2012 G37xS to do so successfully. I'm also using spacers...15mm front and 20mm rear.There's a little negative camber but it's still well within spec and it looks great! Of course I had to do an alignment. I'm happy to report that the car rides great and looks good too. If you want to see the car I have a lot of pictures on my FB page. You can look me up under Allan Sonac. If you see a picture of the car looking really lowered with me sitting in front...that's photochoped....

Can you post details of how you worked out those Sustecs, or is this a new AWD application? Haven't heard of them being available for AWDs.
Thanks for any info you can provide, and if indeed these are now available for the Xs could you post info in this thread, appreciate it
