New Winter Wheels for the GS

I live in NC, and although I'm originally a Yankee, the snow/ice storm we recently had looked like an apocalyptic scene from the walking dead. Needless to say.. The G with its Michelin Pilot Sports and RWD was not a fun experience for me getting home from work. So...need me some snow tires. Decided on getting new wheels, tires, sensors. Just pulled the trigger on these. What'ya think? My car is liquid platinum so not sure how the color will look.

I'd forgo the tpms. Check your tire pressures every few weeks and you'll be go.

Where in NC are you? What about getting all season tires?

Unless you are in the mountains, I can't imagine the cost of winter tires being worth it. They could easily wear out before the next snow The snow-pocalypse certainly sucked, but it's also the first time we had accumulation since 2011 (in Charlotte at least).

I wouldn't want to give up that much performance on the off chance we get a blizzard.

I have that exact same setup (minus the tpms). It makes a world of difference in the ice/snow (I live in Toledo- we're about to break our all time snow record this week).

Works for me. Snow tires are a must up North here. Mine are still on the car. Your other option was to use your OEM Sport rims as winter rats, and go aftermarket in the Summer, instead of the Winter. Much more costly, but more more interesting, too.

Are you sure those will clear your BBK? And that's quite a premium you got charged for TPMS, although still just nitpicking in the larger context.

Wheels look very similar to the anniversary editions. Not bad for 500 bucks.

I have the X-ices and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how well they work in the snow. I have a RWD sedan in NY and had no problems getting around with all the crazy weather we have been getting. Deep snow is a little tricky but still loads better than summer tires.

What color is your car? How does the gun metal titanium look? Also, since you have a coupe, did you go with 19" for the snows?

I'm in the Raleigh area. I understand your thinking and that's exactly why I waited so long to get these...just figured I wouldn't get stuck in it often enough to justify. But I've had the car almost 3 years and got stuck twice... people having to push me out. So I figured let me buy these and go as long as I can with the Summers before the switchover.

I'm not exactly sure they will clear the BBK, but I'm hoping tirerack handled their suggested wheels correctly. You have to tell them it's the sport version. I'm a little worried now though because I bought these while we still have some winter left so they would be in stock, but this also means I have to wait a year to install and maybe the warranty to return will be gone, not sure. I guess I could always just put one on the back myself soon just to check for fit.

On the front, not the back. It's the 4-piston caliper that introduces fitment problems.

Here's a thought... your OEM sport rims on the front are 18x7.5". These new rims are 18x8". Granted, that's only a half inch, and IDK what your new offset is or how to calculate that.

Easiest thing is to swap one front rim when you get them. Peace of mind for another 8 months.

I guess if you can switch them when you need them, but $1500 is a lot for something you might need once a year.

I use to just switch summers/all seasons on my stock wheels, and that was only because I traveled to Ohio for Christmas. Now I just embrace southerners fear of snow, let the city shut down, and stay home

3 Season Tires? The cost of Snow Tires is certainly worth it, especially if it prevents an accident just once.

You would spend the money on snow tires when your average annual snow accumulation is less than 6 inches a year??
