AWD light flashes after 80 mph. staggered setup

My AWD light flashes if i go over 80 MPH. I read somewhere this means the awd system is over heating.

I am running 245/35/20 up front and 275/30/20 in the rear. Its a 1.1% difference in the aspect ratio.

To stop the AWD light from flashing, i had to pull over, turn the car off, and then back on again. and the light disappeared. It does not happen with my stock wheels which is a square setup.

I go over 80 a lot so is there a fix to this problem?

Anything besides changing the tire sizes to something that has a smaller rolling diameter?

All 4 tires are dunlop sport maxx tt.

probably

Your tires have to be the same diameter. At 80 mph the slight diffrence in rotation speed is doing it. Go back to square setup.

Careful, I've heard of awd cars that explode transmissions because of diff size tires. Aluminum housings and steel gears that are always in a bind are not a good combo.

From: Framingham Ma,
Your rolling diam has be be below 1, is what I was told when I ran mine.
I was real safe at 235/40/19 and 255/35/19. Mine was like .30.

yeah i think offsets are like 38 in the front and 41 in the rear.
but offsets have nothing to do with the rolling diameter.

My dealership told me i am good with the tire sizes i bought, which is why i got them! I should have recorded that phone call. might just make that phone call again just in case. Plus i have stock wheels and a 10 year warranty so if anything goes wrong i'll just throw those on and go to the dealership.

Why would my tranny get messed up? isnt the awd system placed in a complete different area than the tranny?

From: Framingham Ma,
The AWD system is attached to the tranny ( You know that tho) if the AWD locks up or shatters "may" cause tranny damage.

BTW NEVER trust the dealer, Didnt you read my BOOM story, LOL

Don't flame me but I gotta ask. If the AWD only kicks in when wheel slip is detected, why is it overheating?

Over heating is normally caused by low fluid in the tranny etc... we cant check that on a AT not sure on a 6mt?

But the rest of your tires and Sizes are fine.. have the dealership check your fluids, differentials... low flyid causes higher friction...=lack of fluid... if full it keeps temps down... My SS is AWD and I always check that... its a must...

My money says if you slap some 285/30R20 tires on the rear, the issue will disappear. There was a post awhile back with the same issue I posted in, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: Found it. Slightly different tire sizes, but similar issue.

Because of the the rolling diam is different( too high of a difference) the car "thinks" its slipping.

You have to be under a 1 difference, From what I was told

Why can't you check fluid level on an automatic..?

I have the same tire sizes and never had a problem with my awd. I occasionally speed to 80-90 and never happened once.
