Rim size and performance

I cannot decide what is going to be better for traction.
I am looking at doing 18 19 or 20 but 20s get heavy and the tires seems to be really thin. anyone use different sizes and can give me some information?
im thinking about doing the 19x8.5s front and 19x9.5 rear.. I am upgrading the car slowly and plan to put a TT and take it to the track so what im asking is what tires are capable of handling the 500+ HP?

If you want to be able to get traction, get the widest, stickiest tires you can buy. Michelin Pilot Super Sports would be a good bet. The size of the rim 18"-20" will effect cornering and handling more-so than traction. Plenty of Ferrari's and the Bugatti Veyron have 20" rims.

That being said for performance, I'd go 19" forged rims with fat tires.

I have 19" volks with wide Michelin PSS tires the grip is great but 19" is an off-size so the rubber is expensive.

What Blamb said^^^, going w/ a turbo setup pushing 500hp you'll want to get some quality forged wheels, a good option would be the older G35 coupe 19" rays forged wheels, these will clear the Big brake calipers and are a strong lighter weight wheel and can be found in the market place (especially over on G35DRIVER.COM - INFINITI G35 (SKYLINE) FORUMS, GALLERY, CHAT, AND MORE. ).

+1 of the 19" Rays OE coupe rims. For the money you'll pay for a used set in good condition it will be hard for you to find a better rim for the money. I had a set of these on my '04 coupe and they were great (forged = light and strong) rims.

If you're going for all out performance/weight saving. 18" Enkei RPF1's is probably one of the best out there. They have plenty of sizes/offset available. Crazy lightweight wheel weighing under 20lb a piece.

With 8.5 front and 9.5 rear and 245/275 combo you would definitely be maximizing the rubber on the road. You can do this in an 18,19,or 20 inch package if you do your homework and have the bucks. There are downsides to ultra low profile tires on the street and also to heavier combinations. In general, larger wheels are heavier with more mass towards the outer rim, but you can offset some this by stepping up to a forged wheel vs. cast. One of the main reasons wheel sizes keep getting bigger is making more room for big brakes and of course for style on street cars. But for the best ride and handling, the 18" has many benefits vs. larger and heavier wheels.

Stick with what you like for the streets.

But if you are serious, use a pair of drag radials for the track. Make sure you build up the drive train tho.

I also have a set for sale, but in Chrome.. +1 though, the rays are a strong wheel.

well it going to be a while but ill be getting a set of cats, exhaust and a programmer for the next year or so, but i want a nice set of rims NOW that way once i do tubro it i don't have to upgrade.. might hurt accel and topend now but the added traction is IMO the way to go.. power with no control is for the birds.
i got 40k on it now and the warranty will be up in about 2 years so ill be doing it around 18 months from now.. depending on how starting this business goes..

I plan on upgrading the clutch, suspension, brakes etc.. dont want to really upgrade the tranny id imagine it can handle 500 at the wheels which i don't plan on having anything extreme. 6-8 PSI of boost just as a entry to racing on the track as a past time/hobby unless someone wants to hire me, lol.

think im just going to use the largest widest tire i can..

they are abit heavy but man i love these ****ers.

Here's his ad in the marketplace, might reply on that thread. I think the wheels are like 8.5/9" or 8.5/9.5" staggered set.
