G37S w/snow tires or G37X NYC

Hello everyone,

I'm a former G35 coupe owner which I had to part ways with when my son was born. I leased a VW jetta because of trunk space decent and features. However, the void left by my g35 was never filled by my crappy jetta. There's nothing like the sound of the VQ engine and the exhaust note plus power and handling. So finally approaching end of my lease. Since my finances are taking a turn for the better I have finally decided that the G37 sedan will be my next car. But I'm stuck at crossroads because my wife will be driving my G every once in a while and with my son in the car safety is a priority. I live in NYC and while we seldom get blizzards it snows often enough. When I had my G35 coupe I didn't need to drive if it snowed a lot so RWD wasn't an issue. So unfortunately Infiniti decided not to include the full sports package on the G37x sedan. I want the akimbo brakes with sports suspension on G37S. So finally the question, will a RWD G37s with snow tires perform as adequate in snow conditions as a g37x with all season tires. Are the bigger brakes and sport suspension worth foregoing AWD?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the essay.

i think living in the city, for me, it's less about the brakes and suspension than a sports suspension on NYC roads will shake your teeth out. living in a neighbooring state and have driven RWD, Historical New Jersey Snow Storms, I would pick AWD OVER RWD any day of the week.

This question is going to generate a lot of discussion, good luck with your choice.

Snow tires either way if you plan on driving in bad weather.

I live in New Jersey where we do get occasional snow.

My G is behind the closed garage door.

Since you are in New York you know that at the first hint of snow every radio and TV station goes into a weather frenzy getting everyone to clean out the shelves of every supermarket.
You fill up your tank get what you need for 2 days or so and stay home and don't drive until the roads are cleared. Usually within 24 hours.
Even when a blizzard begins you have an hour or two before the roads get bad.
I don't buy a vehicle for the very few snow storms that occur/

Just my $.02

I do. To each their own I guess. See far more g37x on the road than g37. I'm not going to bother posting a picture of the front of my house after the boxer day snow storm.

I have a G37S 6MT sedan (lowered) and drive around without any problem in the winter months. Plenty of snow/ice were I live.
Michelin X-Ice snow tires ( or equivalent) will get you around without any problems. Just remember to always drive sensibly.

I'm constantly in and out of brooklyn. RWD with snow tires will be just fine. YOu have nothing to worry about! I have the Blizzak lm-60 225 square setup on my sport wheels.

Same setup here but we probably only get about 10 bad days per winter.

I don't know what you're talking about. I drove my awd in 15 inches of snow. No fishtailing, drama or white knuckle driving.

Totally agree with you bro on your statement, especially since we're both from Jersey (I'm from central) and both drive G37S 6mt sedans haha even the same color
I didn't buy my car for the very few snow storms that we get... the snow is gone the next day or two anyway...

What brand of Snow tires did you have on it?
You can't control what other drivers do but you can certainly control what you, as a driver, do.

If u found a way to get around in a true 15 inches of non plowed snow then god bless u! I find that hard to believe since the g is a sedan and not a suv and u dont have the ground clearance for it but if u did more power to u!!!
