Need advice on G37xS tire replacement

So I drive a '09 G37xS with the 18" OEM wheels. The car has Goodyear LS2 tires on right now (225/50R/18) that are less than 6 months old. This morning while driving on the highway, I went over a nail and it completely blew the tire.

Now I'm in a bit of a dilemma and need your help deciding what I should do.
Here are my options, Should I:
1 - Replace just the flat tire with the same Goodyear LS2, cheapest option (~$150 cost)
2 - Replace both rear tires with the same Goodyear LS2 to keep the thread even on both sides (~$300 cost)
3 - Replace all 4 tires with something better, Goodyears suck! (~$600 cost)

I don't have free money sitting around but if I can get a nice set of tires for under $600 that will improve the overall ride quality of the car then I may go with this option. The stock Goodyears are the worst tires in the world that I feel don't do justice to this car.

If I go with the option of replacing all 4 tires, what does this group think is the best brand tire to go with? I live in Cincinnati where it can snow for a max 2 months in a year.

I have heard people changing the size of the tires too to get a more aggressive look and better handling and maybe even a better deal (245/45/18's maybe?) Is this a recommended option as well? I'm open to whatever is the best bang for buck deal right now

Also, what can one do with a decent set of tires? Can I recycle them for money? On my last service last week, the tires still had 80% thread life on them.

Any other option I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would replace the flat only and look into a better tire when all need replacing.

Best tires are debatable on what your needs are. I'm in Mason and run a Winter (Thanksgiving - Easter)/Summer rotation. IMHO the best summers are the Michelin Pilot SS. I have those in 275/35/19 and 245/40/19. I also run the Michelin X-Ice2 in the winter that are a square 225/50/18 setup.

No you can't recycle, in fact you will have to pay a disposal fee.

BTW, a wider tire will handle snow more poorly than a same skinnier version.

edit: I think the new Michelin A/S3 ???? is getting good reviews if you want to run an all-season all year. Michelin tires aren't cheap however.

Can't go wrong w/ rks advice, you might also want to consider the Toyos, they get great reviews too, comparable to the Pilot SS (if you want a 3 season tire). Ask for Andrew and mention myG37.com for the best deals

good advice... i got a quote for $167 out the door including mounting and balancing 1 tire. goodyear will also balance other 3 tires for free. this is the lest expensive way to go and i will wait for all tires to wear out before switching to a different brand.

lol, that's mine. We can meet up if you want to see it but it's currently covered in spit from a drooling Lab and boys learning how to spit sunflower shells!

Continental ExtremeContact DWS are very good tires. I've had them for about 2 years now and love them.

Yes, I had bought 17" Continental DWS for my last car ('07 Mini Cooper S) and they were pretty good.

Update: I got the one new tire on yesterday and the dealer balanced all 4 wheels again. car is running smooth as butter now... Thanks everyone for the help!

Always appreciate the love! I agree on the Toyo's, great tire for the money and can definitely give the Michelin a run for it's money.
