Need help on replacement tires! (Dealer quotes included!!)

So, I'm 30 months into my 39 month lease (2011 G37s sedan) and of course that means, my tires are almost ready to be replaced! I've only got 24,600 miles on the car BTW.

Now, I'm ok with replacing my tires this close to the end of my lease, but because of that, I'm hoping to find the most reasonably priced, basic tires that I can find (don't want to pay an arm and a leg for tires on a car that I'm about to give back to Infiniti)

Here are the quotes I got for two sets of tires from my dealer:

What are you thoughts? What would you do if you were in my position?

If I had to, I think I'd rather get some basic tires that will get me through the end of my lease. They don't have to be high performance summer tires like the ones they quoted me. I'm thinking I might just walk up to a Discount Tire and get whatever fits.

I'd hit up America's Tire Co. and get some YK580s or even cheaper Falkens or something. If you don't plan on keeping the car, whatever is cheapest would seem to work for me? Those prices seem a bit steep.

Do I have to get two different tire sizes? Can I save some money by buying 4 of the same tire?

You must get the same size tires and the same speed rating, but you can get a higher speed rated tire. Go online and find some Nexens or some other cheaper tire as long as they're the same size & speed you're good to go.
And no need to pay for an alignment unless you're car is tracking strange or you're getting uneven tread wear.

I'm a complete tire noob. Please forgive my ignorance...

What do you mean by a "higher speed rated" tire?

Tires are rated for a maximum speed that they can handle before they start falling apart which is denoted by a letter. In the case of your G37, the OEM RE050As have a speed rating of W which means they are rated for a max speed of 168 mph. So basically you can get any tire that fits your wheels and has a speed rating of W or higher (though higher ratings will tend to be more expensive).

I definitely would not pay the dealer to align the car either? That's nuts. Go out and find the cheapest tires with the same or higher speed rating do not get an alignment. Simply the speed rating is the little number and letter like 94V... the letter is the important part. get that letter or a higher one. Usually the stock letter is cheapest though.... Go anywhere but the dealer ? You should be able to find tires for around 500$ installed.

If you go on tire rack or discounttire's website just get the cheapest tires that will fit your car that match the speed rating. As mentioned, Nexens would be a good choice.

I would stay with a staggered set up too.

That looks about right for Michelin's. But the Bridgestone are way high, especially for the quality of tire that it is. Michelin is a top of the line tire and unfortunately with that, comes a high price.

But as the others suggested, Discount Tire or America's Tire Co. have pretty competitive prices and should be able to get you into something that's more cost effective.

Definitely stay with the staggered setup as Hapa mentioned. Sometimes you can get dinged on a lease if the tires are different than the factory specification, (i.e. having 245/45-18's at all four corners).

Your oem sizes are 225/50/18 & 245/45/18
Here's Tireracks selection, and you can put all seasons on there as long as the speed rating is correct. The Sumitomos are $109front $119 rear for example.

Go to Discount Tire- bring in any tire price you find online and they will match the price- been buying tires at Discount for over 30 years- first set I ever bought where in Tempe on vacation!!! Yes and just get same size and cheapest with same rating and you are good to go if you will be unloading the vehicle.

And if you do go to Discount tire, since you've only got a few months left on your lease don't get all their "add-ons" like road hazard, the price quickly adds up if you let them "run-it-up".

Last time I needed tires, cheapest I could find (245/45/18 BFG KDWs for my old car) was on discountedwheelwarehouse.com

Then I brought the tires to sears, about $30/tire for mounting

Getting tires thru the dealer is a joke for the most part
