Tire Advice
My local tire guy has some pretty limited tire options for me: Nexen's and General GMAX. Does anyone on here have experience with either brand - good or bad?
Thanks

I have General G-Max on my Maxima beater for a while now. They are better tires than I expected them to be. They wear very well. They are all season tires but it doesn't get cold here so I cant tell yo have they behave in winter conditions. They sidewalls are a little soft but not horrible. Decent all around tire, but certainly not up to par handling wise with good performance tires.
I have never had Nexen, can't help you there.
There's always the option of them ordering exactly what you want. Most shops can do this. Or order form an online vendor like TireRack or TreadDepot. Both have reps who post here and can answer your questions.

Hankook is having a rebate right now if you buy 4 tires (the amount depends on the tires you buy). I just bought mine on Tirerack.com, and you can ship them where ever, and they shipped VERY FAST.

Stay away from nexen. It's a crappy tire most often found on korean cars (hyundai, kia, etc..) The kia I had for 2 or 3 months came with them. I'm sure they contributed in part to the car's inability to track straight.
I recently bought a used G37 and of course the dealer had put brand new Nexen tires on it. I had never heard of them. They drive ok but I only have about 4000 miles on them. Traction is not that good as it's too easy to break loose on acceleration and I definitely agree with the tracking statement above. They also tend to get a flat spot when sitting over night in the cold. That causes some mild vibration that goes away once the tires warm up. Fortunately I live in Arizona and with summer arriving I won't see that issue for some time.
My right foot is doing it's part to justify new tires as soon as possible. Then I have the issue with the stagger not allowing me to rotate the tires so I'm forced to do some heavy cornering to keep the wear balanced. Can't say it bothers me too much.
If I were in your situation I'd be buying something better from a company like Tire Rack and have someone local install them. This car needs the proper tires to do justice to its performance capability.

I wouldnt bother with either. Why waste the cars capabilities with crappy tires. Your car will thank you after putting on a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport 2's. Expensive yes, but worth every penny. I've had mind for a year now and with my spirited driving, they still look great...
