Question Flat Tire - now mismatched - what to do?

I got a flat tire yesterday (rear drivers side) which couldn't be repaired so I had it replaced with the only thing they had in stock at Merchants Tire (Michelin Pilot Sport).

So now I have mismatched tires. The other 3 are the original stockBridgestone Potenza which now have 22,000 miles on them. They are all still ok, but the 2 fronts are better than the 1 rear.

I will show what I think are my options but I'd like to know what you would do. My car is 2011 G37S Sedan, 22,000 miles.

MY OPTIONS:
1. Drive as-is until any/all other 3 tires need changing.
2. Only replace other rear passenger side with another new mich pilot to match drv side.
3. Replace all 4 with tires w/ 4 new matching tires.

CONS (WITH EACH OPTION ABOVE):
1. Tires will be mismatched, poor ride, increased wear.
2. Will still have 2 stock tires in front with little tread left. Also, what do you do with the one stock from rear psr side that had nothing wrong with it?
3. Highest cost option. Also what do you do with 3 stock tires that have a little tread left on them?

I'd go with option 2 as soon as I can. Mixing tires on one axle is bad enough. You could give the rear tire to someone (e.g. a local tire store - I did that and became friends with them) or try to sell it for cheap.

At least you got a much better tire
I'd change out the other three ASAP, at 22k those Potenzas shouldn't have much useable tread unless you really take it easy w/ your G. Plus you'll have about the best possible treads on all 4 corners to enjoy your G that much more

Oh, and if you have a lot of big trees on your property you can make at least 3 nice tire swings

at a minimum go with option 2. if you can spring it, option 3 is best. the Potenzas are usually worn by around your mileage anyhow.

Replacing the worn Bridgestone Potenza tire on the same axle with Michelin Pilot Sport and replace the other 2 when possible.

This will be the most cost effective decision...unles you can afford and replace all 3.

If $$$ is a problem go with option 2

If not the ideal solution is an additional 3 tires to match

Take the new one off and get a used rear bridgestone until ready to buy 3 other pilots

I agree with blnewt. I'd just change them all right now to the Michelin PSS.

At 22k, he's right, probably not much left and you'll have peace of mind. I have OCD when it comes to my cars... so it would bother me SO much that I'd rather just spend the cash.

Replace all 3 if you can afford it, if not replace the other rear so at least the rear match. The rears usually wear faster than the fronts anyway.

Thanks to all for replying. Right now I am leaning more toward option 2. These tires are about $260.00/ea, so we'd be looking at close to $1k to replace, balance, and align all 4. If I go with replacing just the passenger side rear, I can probably handle that $$. Granted soon I will be forced into forking it over anyway for 2 more to replace the fronts. It's just that with my luck if I drive away with 4 new tires I'll probably get a flat on the way home. Option 2 balances my OCD with my Murphy's law. Do you guys think I'll have any trouble later finding the same Michelin PS for the front if I wait? By the way, they are just plain Michelin Pilot Sports, not Super Sport, not A/S, not pilot sport 3, etc.

Buy road hazard insurance whatever you do. It's usually about $25 per tire, but I have replaced 2 tires on my EX35 within the past month for a $50 deductible each because of nails picked up in the sidewall. These tires had 27k miles on them too, so they were getting close to needing to be replaced anyway.

Mine were shot @ 15 k.

I'd look at getting 4 new sneakers for your ride.
