09' G37S still original tires in front...

Hey guys,

Just curious does anyone else still have the OEM bridgestones on the front of G37-S? How many miles do you have?

I have 27k miles on my 09' and still have the stock tires in the front. They are down to the wear bars on the outsides of the tire, but the inside still has a little bit of meat above the wear bar. I also noticed the tire looks "cracked"? I'm not sure what that is, or if its from living in Florida with the heat.

Is it safe to still keep driving with these tires? I changed my rears a few months back to the Hankook Ventus K12 Evo tires. Should I get Hankook in the front? Or does it not matter? I know for lease purposes I need to get Z rated tires to match...My car is due back in September, so I'm looking to get the cheapest Z rated ones I can find. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Rubber cracks from age - look up dry rotting. If it's just starting to, you should be ok for a bit.

With regard to the tread wear, under inflated tires will typically wear the sides out first, over inflated, the middle. In your case, it sounds like tires might have been run under inflated.

In dry conditions the tires are fine. The problem is, in the rain, with tread worn at or near the wear bars, your car will be more prone to hydroplaning. If severe enough, can cause loss of control.

Ideally, it's best to run with same tires front/back, this ensures same levels of grip front and back. Albeit, i've seen cars with all 4 tires being different models and sizes, so ymmv.

Not sure what your lease agreement is with regard to return car with tires full of tread. If that is indeed the case, you might want to pickup the cheapest tires of correct size for the front.

27k is def a little high for the OEM tires... but go with the evo k12 those are the cheapest performance tires i think... like 7-800 for the set?

but yeah clarification of what you need to return with is where you need to start. if you want to be hardcore just go to a tire yard and buy some used tires.

Nobody really says the same thing...but when I asked the guy at my dealership he said the following:

"The tires must match on each axle (front tires/back tires?) and must meet or exceed the factory tires (speed rating) and same size."

Anyone know anything else? They don't even make the same tires in the rear I have for the front...

September is a long time from now... you're probably going to be in the process of replacing the fronts by that time.

you need to replace them if they're 4/32.... if i remember correctly. no way the potenzas will last 30k... but I don't know very many cheap Z rated tires... i think the evo 12s are the cheapest...

It's not so much the ratings, but the tires themselves; tread compound, friction coefficients, handling characteristics at operating temperatures, etc..

You can have two identical size/rated tires that behave very differently when in a dynamic state.

Also, you don't have to buy new tires, look on CL for used tires with decent tread remaining.
