Volk centering rings

I just had my stock wheels put on blizzaks for the winter and a reputable shop took of my Volk GT30's but said the centering rings (not the center caps) were corrodid and they tried to get them off but could not without damaging them! Now this guy did all of my original alignment and camber work perfectly and said there were no problems a year ago! Does this sound right...will they corrode in a year?? Can replacements be bought separate?? How much??

thanks

Yes they can corrode fairly easily and it makes them difficult to remove without beating them to hell. You can get replacement ones from just about anywhere. Dunno how much they cost, but I think they're fairly cheap.

Make sure you get the right fitment centering rings and they're put on properly, I had so many problems with my Volk GT-30's that I eventually sold them.

Thanks. I haven't had any problems until now. They are nice but a real pain to keep clean!

Would you Maybe care to share your other issues? For me and others like me who are looking to purchase these wheels? This makes me nervous...

I have multiple threads if you care to look.

Basically the bulk of it was that I bought the wheels used and the guy before handing them to me brought them a wheel repair shop to have the lips powder-coated and they SWITCHED the faces of the wheels (since there 2pc wheels) so the offsets were backwards and didn't properly clear my brakes.

Me and my dad didn't know WTF to do for 4 months. I brought it to multiple car shops to look, have it mounted/balanced countless times still nothing.

Finally I figured out that they facked up by switching the faces of the wheels. After spending 400-500 dollars on nothing.

So I call up a guy or two and they quote me 400-500 just to switch the faces of the wheels back to normal so me and my dad decide to take off the faces of our wheels ourselves and broke 3 screws. AND VOLK SCREWS ARE CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. that took A LOT of time finding them, and eventually had to call volk industries and caused a commotion over it because they dont sell the screws because you are not suppose to take apart the wheel to begin with.

Then I get all types of vibration issues with and without the centering rings. Called it a day and sold them for 2.5k for someone elses headache. They knew what they were dealing with, so they bought them.

Never will I EVER buy used wheels again. NEVER.

I have had no problems except for the centering rings which seems to be common and from what Ive heard can be fixed by putting some "never-seize" on the rings when installing.

What happened to JohnnysG sux because somebody didn't know what they were doing when they took them apart and he bought them used. Otherwise if you know what your getting or buy new...they are some of the nicest looking and performing wheels out there!

My only other issue is the polished aluminum lip has to be cleaned constantly...I just couldn't keep up with mine and they got some oxidation and stains that i'm working to get out! Might be listing mine for sale soon...and they were never taken apart!

Good luck!

Oh man...that sux! Yeah I did read Volk highly recommends not taking them apart! I bought mine new but your situation would DEF make me think twice on buying a USED custom painted 2 pc wheel!!

dang, $2.5K? Was the buyer able to fix it?

wanted to re-paint my GT30 Phantoms' barrel/lip gloss black but scrapped the idea because of Johnny's problems.

Anyways, back to topic..

Could it be possible that the shop forgot to remove the rings and put the oem wheels with the rings still on? Thats what I did earlier this year , only remembered about the rings when I was putting on the last oem wheel. The rings basically acted like a crush washer and it was a PITA to remove after. Had to beat on them until they were destroyed.

There are some rings that are made of plastic, maybe you can go that route. No corrosion problems there.
