I like the idea of black wheels, but I don't really like them implemented in reality. What I mean is, most of the black wheels I see are too dark to see any detail at all, and it just looks like 2 black circles in the wheel wells with the black tires and black wheels. If the calipers are painted, and the rotors are very shiny, you can sometimes get enough contrast to appreciate the wheels.

I am referring to wheels that I see in person...it's even worse for most wheels that I see in pictures. Unless you know how to use a camera and set the exposure properly, most camera-phones are going to underexpose the black wheels, and oftentimes, I see even less detail than in person. If the picture is taken with ample light, this is usually not an issue though.

I like the ones above with the silver rim around the black spokes. It seems easier to look at for me with the added contrast. If I were going to run with black wheels, I'd get some with little ornate detail, as I don't feel the detail will be noticed or appreciated on such a dark color.

I think those wheels have the perfect amount of contrast. But I'm more like you, I personally wouldn't buy an all black wheel.

Can't agree more here. Having a red G, I've given my share of thought to black wheels. But, I think I've just about made up my mind on Gunmetal. Would love to see some reds with Gunmetal/Gray wheels!

The numerous images of black wheels on craptastic 90's Honda Civics are forever implanted in my brain. Civics aren't bad cars but there are some junky ones still chugging along...they all seem to have that signature black spare tire looking wheels on them.

This is the reason I can't get behind black wheels. They look cheap to me, especially from a distance. There are some good examples but they still would look better with gunmetal or even black chrome.
