I see a TON of people on this forum replacing their stock wheels. What exactly do you do with them?

I ask as I want to get a pair of rear of OEM wheels for my '08 G37S (I have the thin spoke 19" https://www.myg37.com/forums/attachm...-4-on-wall.jpg). I would be willing to buy a whole set from someone if it was affordable enough.

when people buy aftermarket wheels, they usually just keep the stock wheels, and they put it back on during the winter time, or when they go to the dealer to get some work done, cuz theyre afraid the dealer might scratch them....

 

Nah.....we sell them to other forum members, and then search to buy them back when we need a set! Lol

My stockies+tires are used in winter.

 

I am planning to do the same like my other vehicles. Put winter tires on them and use them for the winter time.

 

I drive on mine because I can't afford to replace them yet. They have some pretty nasty curb rash, and are ugly as sin despite my rigorous cleaning efforts due to some strange, unknown substance that has stained them. It makes me sad every time I look at them, but such are the pitfalls of buying used.

 

those stains are caused by the dealer free car washes. they put some tire cleaning solution on it and if it's a really hot day when they do it, it stains the wheels

 

keep them in your trunk is case you get 4 flats all at the same time

 

I’m sure for the most part these OEM rims sit in a garage or storage place collecting dust over the years until a decision is made to throw them out.

But I remember a while back that some guy over at the Lexus IS forum was asking for G37 Coupe wheels to replace his IS250 OEM wheels. That suggests a trade program of some sort. Instead of forking out big bucks for aftermarket rims, modders could just trade with someone who has a different car who doesn’t like his OEM rims. This could be a good online business for someone. After all, the grass is often greener on the other side for many car enthusiasts.

 

yeah, those "No Touch" wheel cleaners are bad news... you have to get it off almost immediately or it will burn the wheels - no bueno. Unfortunately my dealer wants to wash my car even when I tell them not to....pisses me off

Lease car: New $$ wheels on, store stock wheels. Return lease car: $$ wheels off, stock wheels on. Sell $$ wheels.

 

Mines in a storage Unit mint. Since i Took them off Never use because I'm too lazy to take my aftermaket wheels off lol.

 

Mine is not a lease, but same idea. Most people put back the OEM rims when they sell the car because lay people don't want to pay extra, or don't know the difference.

 

Or they would rather add customizations to fit their own tastes...
