I'm in So Cal I may drive PCH along the beach one day and then drive up to Lake Arrowhead at ~5,000'+ altitude the next. I don't drive the mountains when chains are required, but worry about finding sections of the road with light snow / ice. Makes for a hard choice in tires.

Not many to choose from, but some good stuff is available. DWS is the most popular with strongest a/s traction, but is a tad noisy and lacks a bit in dry. Michelin AS+ best dry and steering response, but works in moderate to light snow climates at most. The Yoko Envigor is happy medium between the two. Good life, handling, wet traction, etc. Been a crowd pleaser also.
Hi Neal...new to the forum.
Have a 2011 GX37 AWD with 8000 km on my Michelin MXv4 tires....great quiet tire but above 80 km/hr car drifts and floats.
I am replacing it with MichelinsPilot Sport A/S Plus Michelins
Ultra High Performance All- Season
225/55ZR 17
Rated 97W
Would appreciate you comments
Thanks,

Overall a great tire to move into. Tighter handling, more response, great wet, etc. Should work out well!

I'm still a few months from buying and can't believe how much I find myself researching tires in my free time. I love to research, so...

More and more I'm liking these General G-MAX tires, too, My latest revelation is the cost per mile. Someone commented that with the DWS only a little more $$ and that it offers more miles, I did a simple calculation on the cost per mile, using the warranty number.

In the 245/50-17 -

Tire....................Warranty..........Cost.... .Cost Per Mile
---------------------------------------------------------------
Continental DWS.....50,000.........$167...... .0033
General G-MAX.......40,000.........$134...... .0031

Point being, all things equal, the G-MAX actually costs less per warranty mile.

Except the G-Max tread is directional, which means you are limited to front to back rotation. This may impact your ability to reach 40,000 miles.

Good point, thank you. I thought the DWS was directional, but I see now it's asymmetrical.
