An overlooked tire
An overlooked tire
The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT Max Performance summer tire does not come in:
225/50/18 or 225/45/19
Therefore, Dunlop does not offer this tire to G37X Sedan and G37X Coupe owners looking for replacement tires in the OEM size.
Further, while Dunlop offers the tire in 245/45/18 and 245/40/19, G37 Sport Sedan and Coupe owners looking for replacement tires in an OEM staggered set up cannot get the proper sizes.
The only G37 model which the Dunlop comes in OEM replacement size is the G37 Journey/Base Sedan: 225/55/17.
Even then, as a summer tire it's appeal is limited by climate. Accordingly, I'm not sure this tire has ever been mentioned on myG37.com. I searched and didn't find anything.
In studying the TireRack testing over the last 3 years, however, this tire is a stellar performer in both dry and wet conditions.
Compared to 22 other tires that fit the G Sedan, including:
PZero Nero
Advan Sport
Wide Oval Indy 500
Ecsta SPT
Pilot Sport AS+
ExtremeContact DWS
Advan S.4
S.Drive
g-Force Sport
ContiProContact
the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT won:
1. Every subjective dry track test category
2. 4 out of 5 subjective wet track test categories (and 2nd in the other)
3. 3 out of 4 objective dry track test times/measurements (and 2nd in the other)
In the 4 objective wet track test times/measurements, the Dunlop finished a close 2nd each time to the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.
Of course, these tires were not all tested on the same day. 2 different cars were used (2008 328i and 2011 328i). Probably more than one driver. Different weather conditions. So these are not exactly "scientific" comparisons.
But, if you drive a G37 Journey Sedan (or you don't mind a Sport with a square set up) and you live in a place where you don't have to worry about snow, you might check this Dunlop tire out. I am seriously considering it.
I'd be interested if Neal has any feedback on the tire.
