Yeah, you can do 20's on your X. But I wouldn't do staggered wheels. 245/35-20 or 255/35-20 all around are ideal. That's gonna be my setup soon on my xS.

 

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! I'm thinking about going with some black MRR GT1's until I can trade up to some Work VS-XX Anybody have any specific recommendations with these wheels?

Just make sure the wheels are the proper offset/width so they don't stick out the wells. That just screams cheap aftermarket.

 

You asked for OB w/ 20s, here's my 09 w/ 20s on 245/35/20s and still stock height.

Our 09 had the totally crap 17" Goodyear RS-As (these belong on a Camry, not a 328hp G), the 17s w/ their higher profile sidewalls don't give much road feel and the car just wasn't too connected to the road if you know what I mean. The 20s w/245/35/20s are the EXACT diameter as the stock 17s so you'll have zero speedo error or VDC or ABS issues.
The 20s do create a bit more road noise due to the wider and lower profile, you'll also feel the rough stuff more. I MUCH prefer feeling the road than feeling disconnected from the drive, the car drives and feels much sportier w/ this setup.
Our 07 had the 18 sport wheels and these were a bit better than the 17s (the tires were MUCH better), I think 19s would be a good compromise for a ride that's slightly less harsh but retaining the road feel of the 20s. I like the look of the 20s and like others mentioned 20 tires seem to be a bit cheaper too. At any rate, I'd get the bigger wheels ASAP, you'll be glad you did.

 

Call me plain jane, but I kinda dig the wheels that came on the car...

 

OP here is my g35 on 245/35/20 all the way around. Stock springs. Wheels are for sale in the for sale section. Ride was great, no issues at all going to 20's.
