Question about wheel offsets and how they would fit.

I know it's a newbie question but I'm considering putting some different wheels on my car. I really want the 245/45/18 size all the way around.

For them to look right on the rims, I probably need the 18x8.5 or 18x9 correct? (I have 18x7.5 now).

Right now my wheels (stock xS 18's) are pretty much flush with the wheel wells. When looking I see something like this "Front wheels are 18" x 8" 50mm offset. Rears are 18" x 9" 15mm offset". Does this mean that the rears would be even with the fronts since they are a small offset? I'm not wanting to put staggered sizes on, just looking at the rears really.

I"m not exactly sure what an offset is, but trying to learn so I don't buy something that would look really crappy of course.

thank you for reading.

This should help you in choosing the right rim. If you know what your current offsets are for your car you can use this calculator to find out what makes sense for you.

Unfortunately all I know is they are stock xs wheels, 18*7.5.. just try to find out if the 18*8.5 sit a bit farther in so they are still as flush as the 7.5 ones.

the offset is how much it is from the lugs to the end of the lip. the lower the offset, the more it will poke. The larger the wheel, the lower the offset you want to do to move the wheel outward away from the inside fender or it simply won't fit, the inside of the wheel will hit the fender before ever getting on the lugs.
