I was told to put nothing on the lips of my Volks as it will ruin or discolor the anodized lip. I ONLY use water, carwash soap and a microfiber cloth to wash and dry the wheels.
I even avoid using spray on tire shine in fear that I will over spray it on the lips.

Exactly. You can use tire shine, but wipe the lips down after spraying.
Also, Stoners Invisible Glass is safe for a quick clean as long as they aren't too dirty.
you gotta use use regular car washing soap and water. did you discolor yours with cleaner products or just looking for how to clean them?
I didnt use any product on the wheels only soap and water and meg wax, but three of the wheels are decolored. Now only my driverside has purple hue on it.
I've found simple green a safe and mild, yet effective cleaner on many different applications, from wheels to motorcycles... however, I admit, I haven't used it on anodized surface...as always, test on inconspicuous area first!

I still use tire shine every now and then, just not the spray on kind. I use the wipe on stuff to avoid overspraying.
