my stock tires in the back are pretty much dead at 17k miles (g37s 2008 coupe)

looking for some suggestions, a guy told me today to go with 400 tread rating instead of the 140 rating from the stock tires.

i dont want to sacrifice handling, and be able to notice the difference in handling, so is there any tires you guys suggest that i can keep the performance but have longer tread life? thanks

Those are not even close to being comparable with the stock tires.

Yokohama Advan Sport would be the closest to OEM in terms of performance.

If you're not consistently making the tires "screech", try going down one notch in the "grip" category, and see how you like them. Jumping to AVID Envigors would be a pretty drastic change, as youre going from a ultra-high-performance summer tire to a high-performance all-season tire.

I have 18K on my ’08 stock tires and as of this week when I went in for service the dealer confirmed I have 80% tread still left on all four tires. Now perhaps I drive a bit more conservatively than you, but that may be something to consider when you get new tires.

 

I think the OP got an S with 19", so definitely less miles out of them ...

 

i barely got 21k out of them. if you';re over 15k miles on those 19" tires, you're in good shape.

 

nah i dont drive too crazy, these are the 19in S tires thats why

so any other suggestions? i dont want those yokohamas since ill lose handling performance, i want to keep performance but have them maybe last a little longer then 17k miles LOL

 

I'm very happy with the Avid Envigors. Very smooth, quiet and responsive. I've found them to have dry grip indistinguishable from the OEMs, at least in the first 2K miles. I don't need max traction associated with the OEM tires, particularly at the sacrafice of treadwear. I do need to be able to drive the car in light snow. That's a judgment you need to make for yourself.

 

yeah im in jersey so snow is a factor sometimes but im more about the look and performance then the treadwear......i just figured there might be a tire that lasts 25k miles instead of 17 that i can get the same performance from (OEM)

 

I only got 21K miles on my stock tires. I recommend as a less expensive and somewhat comparable tire.. the hankook ventus v12 evo. I replaced my stocks last month, and am impressed with the hankook ventus. Good grip, nice ride.

 

I've got 30,xxx on Vredesteins, with some to go yet. Handle great,too. Plus my car is lowered on Eibachs, and has the larger than stock sizes.

im still having trouble finding tires, the 5 sets that come up on tirerack.com when i put my car in is all i can buy?

some people say those hankook that come up lose grip fast

 

If you're looking for a summer only tire I'd check out the Hankook V12's or B-Stone 760's. V12's will handle a tad better, the 760's will be quieter and last a little longer. Envigor is a good tire, but not in the same realm of handling.
