glad to see that review. really wish I could get some x-ice's for my G37S 6MT. Used to run those and blizzak's on my civic....pretty necessary for western NY and VT winters.

Looks like LM-60's are about my only choice.....

 

Can anyone recommend some High Performance All-Season tires for the G? I don't want summer tires because sometimes I drive up north and sometimes Dallas gets ice, and don't want winter tires because I live in Dallas TX.

I've searched on this topic and can't seem to find a recent thread on this.

TireRack.com has 14 models that meet this criteria. Their ratings system boils it down to these top three, assuming 17" tires in the 225/55-17 size:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Pirelli PZero Nero All Season
Yokohama ADVAN S.4.

Thing is, I usually buy at Discount Tire, and they never carry these specific models, anyway. They seem to have a deal with the tire manufacturers on unique tires made for Discount Tire, as the models they offer are not available anywhere else.

I did once buy tires from TireRack.com and had them installed at the local Firestone shop. Worked out okay but there are so many Discount Tire places in Dallas, I missed that convenience for free rotations and service.

I've had good luck with Yokohama in the past. Wet traction is #1 for me, handling is #2, and quietness is #3.

C&D have always been of the opinion that a good set of winter tires saves substantial cost and weight over AWD. They came to this conclusion by testing cars through many Detroit winters.

My wife's truck is AWD, and the last one she had (same make/model) was 2WD. The AWD does make the vehicle seem heavier, and it doesn't accelerate as well (additional weight and drivetrain losses).

Many people obviously prefer AWD. I wouldn't let C&D's opinion bother you much if you're in that camp. It's all a matter of personal preference.

 

Problem is, they don't seem to make that tire in the stock G sedan size of 235/55-17.

Do you have 18's?

Surely, one of them will fit.

 

I'd suggest 245 width tires, even though the stockers are 225 it's too narrow for the performance nature of the G.

I'm very happy w/ my Dunlop Sport Signatures (12k miles so far). Most of the higher rated AS Tires are pretty close overall, and the comparison spec chart has a lot of different criteria, so a higher rated tire may not be the best for your particular conditions. Tirerack is a great source, Discount Tire is OK, especially if they have the particular tire you desire and can get the whole deal done at once.

 

I incorrectly stated the OEM tire was a 235 - it's a 225 width. I hadn't considered a slightly wider tire...

 

The website says they carry all three. If your local store does not have them in stock, they will get them for you. I puchased both my W*Drive and S*Drive tires from Discount and they both had to be ordered. Takes a couple of days. Do your order online and they will tell you when you should expect them.

 

If you go into Discount tire be sure to have the internet price w/ you. I've ordered tires from them and they gave me a higher price at the store, they honored the internet price but I had to confirm the internet price w/ them

 

In the past I've stuck to the tires they carry, in stock. That way when I need to get one replaced I don't have to wait, or go far. I'll have to see what they carry. If I have to order, I might as well order off tirerack.com.

 

I weant with Discount because I wanted the free balancing/rotation and I live in IN, so I don't save on sales tax.

 

That free balance/rotation is awesome. I've used them for years... on my new G, and my wife's new Volvo, they've rotated tires 2x and fixed a flat - all for free. We just thank them and say we'll be back to buy tires when the time comes.
