Got a flat and need a new tire

2010 G37 Journey

Got a flat while I was 2 min from work and the TPMS light came on, I didn't know what the light meant at first but slowed down. The tire cannot be fixed and I need a new one.

No one seems to have the Goodyear RS-A 225/55/17 in stock, dealer wants 225. I was told I can put another tire which matches the oem and has the same rating, but I'm not sure if replacing just 1 tire is a good idea.

Should I just replace both the rears with a cheaper tire for about the same cost? I read the review on the RS-A's and they aren't that great.

Finally I'm not too happy a car which has the space doesn't come with full size spare.

how many miles are on the car/tires? if you have low mileage then getting a new tire isnt a big deal. if you had 25,000 miles then I would not suggest just getting one tire.

I got a flat 2 weeks after getting the car. The flat wasn't repairable, the shop said I needed a new tire. Luckily I bought the wheel and tire insurance package from dealer. The insur cost $400+ and the new tire that I needed cost $225 so it was worth it to me cause I still have 3yrs left of coverage. The shop I took it to didnt have the tire in stock either, they ordered it and it came in 2 days later so I just rocked a donut for a couple days. Just ask the shop to order you a new tire

Its a new car, 500 miles. So if I just get 1 tire, is it ok to get one of the cheaper alternatives, or have them order the OEM only?

it's best to run all the same tires but with only 500 miles I would just order another oem tire. dont go to dealer though unless you want to pay double the price of what you should. order a tire from tire rack and find somewhere to get it mounted and balanced.

You can get a different tire from the same performance category like the dealer told you, but obviously this has a chance of affecting the handling slightly. Maybe it will be noticable and maybe it won't. My feeling is I'd probably regret not spending the extra $75 if it caused my brand-new car to perform at all worse than in factory condition.

You'd likely notice the difference in the rain or when making sudden evasive movements, etc.

Tirerack has your tire size & brand for 175, but add shipping and installation somewhere and you're probably at least back up to $225 anyway.

Don't have mismatched tires on the same axle. Bite the bullet and overpay for the matching tire from the dealership or if you have another means of transportation available for a couple of days, have a tire shop order it for cheaper or go through Tire Rack.

I decided to get the same tire, ordered from Goodyear and they will have it tomorrow. Its a lot closer than the dealer so I'm going there instead, its about $20 cheaper too.

Good choice. Not the best idea to mix/match models or brands.

Just go to discount tire and get an OEM replaced. The spare is not full sized on many cars these days... cuts down on weight and space required which in our car is a good thing.
