spacers and performance

Is there any effect that spacers cause on performance? You are widing the distance between the wheels just curious if that made an pos/neg changes in performance

Interested to know this as well. I'm tempted to drop /w eibachs on stock 18s but heard about horror stories with spacers...

I have heard a few stories about vibration and safety issues as well.

If you are worried about potential issues with spacers, just make sure you get a set that is hub-centric and that doesn't bolt to the original wheel studs and then use a second set to attach the wheels.

H&R makes spacers like I described and shouldn't cause any problems. I'm planning on picking up two sets of 10mm H&R spacers, just to give the stock 19" wheels a little wider stance. Should look perfect for my needs!

Wider track is generally a (minimal) performance gain, but it won't be anything noticeable on the street.

any other opnions on this or is that all?

By the way what kind of longevity do spacers offer? Is it possible to put them on and drive 30K, 50K, or even 100K without having to worry about damage from vibration?

I had 10mm spacers on my BMW 328I and didn't have any vibrations or issues. I may add 10mm spacers to my G37 Sedan to give the rear a little
more aggressiveness.

spacers act as in offsets.

running low offsets is the same to running wheel spacers. puts the same amount of stress on hub.

I ran spacers on my previous coupe for about 20k miles and no issues.

If traction is a concern.. then no, it wont do anything for traction, only for appearence only.

vibration isssue cause the hubcentric doesn't sit well with oem wheels. I read it was only the Ichiba spacers. Simple fix was adding copper wire or something like that to have better fitment.
there is a thread about it some where here.

to add... No alignment is needed after wheel spacer install.

Very good point and the spacers with stud replacement is the one that seems the best to go with. I was debating this today and this helps confirm my decision to go with it. H&R spacers is what you want to get hands down. Thanks!

For those on the fence
These threads helped me (also discussed is the ichiba issue on stock rims)
