Tire valve covers

Hi, for the 2009 G37x sedan ... could somebody tell me if the tire valve stem caps are metal or plastic, what colour are they, and if they screw in all the way ...appreciate it.

Went for an oil change and one valve was missing, others were loose ...

Thanks

You mean the tire valve stem caps? The OEM ones are little balck plastic caps. Any tire shop will give them to you for free. Or you can buy fancy ones if you want.

my OEM ones were metal, but small, they didn't screw onto the threads all the way. they had a textured rib around it, and a raised dome in the center of the top.

oem valve stem caps were a light aluminum. I have the heavier nitrogen labeled caps.

dealerships will give you the green plastic caps if they nitrogen fill the tires. the black ones are the standard ones.

I have octagonal aluminum caps on mine, all the Infiniti's at my dealer do.

The dealer puts nitrogen in all the tires (fine with me since I'm not paying for it) and puts a little green "N" sticker on the top of the cap.

My car came with metal OEM caps. They came in handy last year when a valve stem failed in the open position while I was putting some air in one tire. The only way to keep enough air in the tire was to put in some more air and screw the cap down real fast as air was gushing out. It held well, allowing me to drive to my dealer to replace the whole stem. I’m not sure if a plastic cap would have done the job.

You guys are right. I stand corrected, the OEM ones are the aluminum ones. I've had aftermarket ones on for so long I forgot that they weren't the plastic ones. They do have a gasket inside the cap that helps to stop small valve leaks from escaping, or at least slows them down.

I happen to have Volk valve caps which have a gasket inside the cap also, many aftermarket caps do.

My caps are stuck on very tight. Does anyone else have this experience? I think I may need to use PB Blaster to get them off.
