Stock Rims Vs. Custom Rims

I am looking to buy new rims/tires for my G. I the stock G37xS tires that the car came with i think they are 18inch or something. If i get bigger rims like 19 or 20inch rims with the different tires will it enhance the driving performance or make it worse? Will the 19's or 20's be better for the sport driving than the stock 18's that I have on their now?

18's will give you the most tire choice. The tire will affect performance far more than the rims will.

Additionally, bigger rims = heavier = more drivetrain loss (slower acceleration, less MPG)

Most ultra high performance tires don't come in sizes over 18".

Not unless you get Volk/Advan/Rays etc... forged wheels are lighter and stronger (and far more costly) than your run-of-the-mill cast wheels.

Check the vendor wheel section, but keep in mind, tires for 19" wheels are expensive as well.

If you're looking for absolute performance on the street, you want 18's. If you're going to be turning into an all out race car, then 19 MIGHT be justified, but unlikely.

can u explain? id think the smaller the rim the lighter? for track id think light weight 18 or for drag light weight 18.... why would the 19 be better in any circumstance?

so most people that take their stock rims and tires off their G sedan and get their own set of rims and tires are taking away from the way the car is meant to drive your saying?

Yes, most of the time it's done for looks and not performance so people don't care if it adds a few pound to each corner.

At the extreme ends of performance, the 19" rim will allow you to run a tire with a smaller sidewall, increasing feedback to the driver, and decreasing sidewall flex. Realistically speaking, to get to this point, the car would be a dedicated race car and/or you'd have to be a pretty damn good driver at a fairly high level of competition.

Even with the 18" rims, you'd be running smaller diameter tires, due to selection. This would of course, alter your gearing for more acceleration anyways....

I would second the note above that rim weights can vary greatly for a given diameter. To say that 18's are heavier than 17's and 19's are heavier still might be a fair generalization, but there are a lot of exceptions to that. I would also add that if you live in an area with really bad road surfaces with lots of potholes, those smaller sidewalls can lead to increased risk of rim damage.
