snow tires or all season for NE
snow tires or all season for NE
I have a g37s coupe and was wondering what you guys think I should buy for winter. Last year, it only snowed like 4 days in Philly, PA where snow actually accumalated. Here are my options:
1. Just run my summer tires and just call out on days where it snows.
2. Buy dedicated snow tires.
3. Buy some decent all season tires and 18 inch wheels
Buying snow tires doesnt seem worth it considering the snow fall is not as high as it used to be.
Thanks for your help!

I'm in Nova Scotia so similar weather. No WAY would I run summers in the winter even on clear days. They become rock hard and are slippery even on dry pavement. General rule is to not run them in freezing temps.
Also, I had Blizzak performance winters on this past year and they worked well... not great but pretty good. I believe that high performance all seasons would be too much of a compromise. IMO, I would suggest that performance winter tires are the only option if you plan to run the car all winter... don't forget about ice, slush and even light snow... winter tires will be better and the performance winters have really good dry pavement performance.
My opinion is that if you are buying a G37 and can afford the car, spending a $1,000 on proper winter shoes should be a no brainer. Anything else, with this rear wheel drive car in the winter, is gambling and not worth the risk... all IMO obviously.

Thank for the reply. This is my first performance car and I never had summer tires on my previous cars. Will invest in some snow tires come november when the temps start to drop. Curious as to what your set up is though in terms of what rims you are running.
But I think that's a great call... the car is not great in the winter anyway (not bad but far from great) and winter tires make all the difference.
+1 on running snows. You can get by on an a/s, but once you use a dedicated winter you'll never go back.
