Curbed Wheel

This past weekend I curbed a car for the first time, which also happens to be the most expensive car I’ve ever owned! I have the 19” sport wheels. I heard the wheel scrape from inside the car, and was worried just how bad it might be. Whilst its not pretty, the damage to the wheel is not as bad as it sounded. Its still relatively smooth, with a 2 inch scratch running on one spoke, and the very outer rim scraped from spoke to spoke, about 4 inches. The area is actually remarkably smooth.

I’m looking for some advice and feedback from others than have been through this process:

- A local wheel shop (without seeing the wheel) indicated they need the car for 3 to 4 days (they dismount for all repairs). He seemed to know a lot about what he would be repairing, indicating Infiniti have two finishes on the G37 which would range the price from $179 to $279. Both the time and price seemed a little steep to me.

- Has anyone ever taken it to the dealer for repair? My previous car, an Audi, used to have a guy that would come by every week to repair scratches and wheels onsite. I wondered if anyone had used this option.

- Anyone ever returned a lease car with a scratched wheel?

- Can anyone based in the Atlanta area recommend a repair center or a mobile repair that comes to your home?

I would expect to pay between $100 and $150 for the repair, and have it done the same day in a 2 to 4 hour period. Am I being unreasonable or is this really a grueling process?

Thanks for any advice offered.

This happened to a friend of mine, and it was practically the ENTIRE edge of the whole wheel. It cost him 150 for 2 wheels (civic si stock wheels) and took a hour and a half. What your looking to pay and the time period is VERY reasonable.

I would say about 175-200ish, within 2-3hrs, depending on how busy they are.

Agree, don't give him the car. Just the wheel or wheel/tire.

I had a repair done in Southern California for $125. I was very please with the results. Ask your dealer. They may know a contact there.

Although I don't think they are mobile, check http://www.wheelwizard.com/

They are based in Atlanta.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Wheel Wizards is one of the vendors I called in Atlanta, who told me they need it for 3 days. Everyone I call can't seem to grasp that it was a scratch and I have not buckled my wheel.

I will keep calling around, although I did call the dealer last night and will stop by them for a quote.
