Sport rims are painted!?

I don't know if this is a surprise to anyone but I found out the sport rims are painted. Unfortunately the way I found out is that I scraped my rims on a curb arghhh!!! Interesting I saw some black material showing through where the rims were nicked. It turns out that the rims are painted or powdered coated silver with the black being some type of primer underneath. I was able to make them look much better by smoothing out the rough edges with metal sandpaper, then masking off the area and painting it with several coats of Rust-Oleum silver metallic spray paint. It's amazing how the Rust-Oleum paint matched the color and finish of the original paint. I guess we will see how long it holds up?

I guess I am a little naive. My last car had polish aluminum wheels (not painted) and they looked great. Why are they painted?

Really? Are you sure? What was it ?

As for why they are painted... I dunno, because they want them to look a certain way and the way to make them look like that is to paint them? They are painted just like your car so obviously they have a finish that will resist many kinds of corrosion... so long as you do not damage it enough to compromise the protection.

It's very common, every car I've had and/or been around has had painted wheels for ... i dunno... 5-6 years?

Wait. Wat. They aren't Ray's, but Enkei is better than 60% of the wheels on this forum.
