Rattles

So the car is in right now because of a rattle. Of course I didn't have time to show them, and guess what they call me telling me the service tech hears no rattles.

LOL

I tell them they better do better than that. So service manager takes it for a drive, hears the rattle. Service rep takes it for a drive hears the rattle. Finally they take the tech for a drive to point out the rattle.

Do techs just not like doing work?

sometimes rattles come and go. the rattle in my sunroof only did it when the car was vibrating from going on rough pavement. i looked at the service write up a few days later, they said it was my sunglasses and just lubed the sunroof track. rattle is still there. they're very hard to trouble shoot also. and sometimes getting to one loosens up something else (anything with clips or screws). if the first one doesn't get fixed then you have two rattles. don't pull your hair out over it. do what i do--roll the windows down and do 80.

^ that's fair. If you're persistant ( and it sounds like you will be) they'll work harder to get it right for you.

it shouldn't matter how much you paid for it. most cars these days have much more rubber and plastic to cut down costs not to mention much more stuff (airbags, harnesses, speakers, plastic fasteners) than much older cars. so not only are they cheap and won't hold up to a lot of vibration, expansion/contraction from climate changes and torsion, but there's much more stuff likely to cause a rattle. you're also buying a car with stiffer suspension and thinner tires than most cars. this is going to transfer a lot more of the road vibration past the suspension componenets into the car and it'll be a matter of time until all that stuff loosens up and "settles". you're going to have rattles in there somewhere.

I understand but if everyone just accepted rattles then we would all be driving vehicles that sound like a school bus. Me I'm going to bitch and complain and maybe manufacturers will put more research into our depreciating assets that they market as higher quality.
