Lack of a rev limiter?

My brothers 2012 EX seems to ignore the rev limiter. Last night he was trying to make a light and the engine spun up to 7900rpm. My G hits 7500 and will fuel cut, but his car just wants to keep going! Any thoughts?

It's possible that his tachometer is off, or looks off from a view. At that RPM the difference between 75 to 79 can vary, especially the EX and it's weird looking cluster.
Tell him to keep going, a one or two time hit to 8k wont hurt and will definitely show if the issue is no rev limit or if it's just the cluster.

Hard possibility however it could have been tuned, could you imagine that

Wouldn’t that be something

He’s told me before that it has hit 8K, honestly it does sound like its Spinning faster than 7500 if I compare it to the G37, but that could just be my ears playing me. I’d like to plug my scanner in and test the gauge being off.

Do you have an OBDII dongle and app (like Torque or Blue Driver)? You can compare the tach to what's shown in the live view of the app.

yes I do, it’s not torque or anything main stream but I do have an app that tells me exact RPM. Tested on my G37, tach compares perfectly. At some point I’ll go out with him and give it a test

I think I hit 8K the other night when in manual mode. Thought I broke the car or damaged it

I’m sure you’re fine, I’ve heard them spin up super high and live to tell the tale.

Still have yet to check it out with my scanner, he and I have very different work schedules. He hasn’t complained about it for a while so I more or less forgot that it does this.

I will say this, i feel it might by very unlikely it was tuned unless the lady before him had a need for speed!
