California: No Front License Plate?

Hey Guys, Just got a new 09 G37S and I'm considering leaving the front plate off. A plate just destroys the beauty of the front end. I know the law here in California says we have to have one, but I see tons of cars without them. Has anyone here tried going without?

Mike

I've been riding w/o one for the last 2 years no problem so far. *knock on wood*
Looks so much better w/o it.. if I were to get a ticket, it would just be a fix it ticket for the front license plate which is an easy fix.

F the law!!! lol

I've been without one for more than ten years, 2 with the Infiniti, and only one ticket for it (knock on wood) in Huntington Beach of course. Just don't park in LA without one, parking enforcement will give you a ticket even when you're parked. But I agree with you, a front plate takes the sleek look away from our cars, or any car for that matter. Worse case, its just a fix it ticket.

I have not had a front plate for the past 5 years (M45 and now G37). Did get 2 tickets for it both times at LAX in the parking lot while on a trip. I think they cost me about $ 31.00 each time and were fix it type without a verification so i just paid the fine and never mounted the plate.

No front plate here!

My wife got a ticket for no front plate, while her car was parked in front of the house... officer had nothing better to do that day, plus it was raining that day...

Isn't that the only time they'll ticket you?

I've never been pulled over for the lack of front plate, but parking enf. will get you. I'm careful, but my girl gets ticketed every time she shops Melrose.

F*** the front plate, f*** "the man"!

Finagler- where'd you get that?

There’s no question that our G’s look better without a front plate. But as I’ve said before, it is inherently unwise to not to have one, as it increases the odds of your getting pulled over.

And when this happens it is not unlikely that they’ll find something else going on, like no seat belt on, some other illegal mod, no insurance verification or worse yet, having had one too many beers at that bar you’re coming home from.

In a worse case scenario, such a incident could end up with your car being impounded, you in jail and having no drivers’ license for the next year or so.

But your car, as it sits in the impound lot for six months, will sure look great.

I got pulled over for not having a front license plate a few years back (when I had my first G35). It was a motorcycle cop - what a douche!!
The reason why I keep it on this time is that I don't want to give them any reason to pull you over. My $0.02

Many many cars don't have one. If you get a fix-it ticket, you can temporarily put the place back using many different methods, take it to get it signed off so the fine is reduced to $10.

It is against the law to not have one. But like you (OP) said, a lot of the cars on the streets don't have one. It's like seeing cars with tints in the front windows (also illegal).

It may be different down in Socal, but the fines were recently up'd from $10 to $25 here.
