SoCal! Should I move??>

Hey Everyone,

As you all know, I currently live in Miami, FL. I recently came back from Anaheim, CA this weekend and absolutely LOVED it. I was considering a few areas there, but not sure. I flew in to LAX, drove through LA, Compton, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Irvine, Orange, Anaheim and a few others.

I am wondering, have you guys visited Miami, and HONESTLY - how is life in SoCal? Also, what is a good neighborhood? I know sure as hell I wouldn't live in Compton (no offense for those of you that do, but not my taste) and I cannot afford Beverly Hills, so what would you recommend?

I'd like to have a nice place overlooking the beach OR overlooking mountains, with a decently sized house in a good neighborhood. Laguna Beach, Hollywood, etc. comes to mind, but I don't know if they are good neighborhoods. Honestly, Hollywood looked kind of ghetto to me.

I also loved what I believe is Bel Air - not sure. Is that by the Hollywood sign? Besides the fact that it is extremely tight to drive there, I wouldn't mind living up there either.

Let me know your feedback fellas! Also, I would be taking the G, does it snow? I heard its dangerous, but here in Miami, never snows and always like 100 degrees in summer, coldest winters are typically 50 degrees, always like 95% humidity.

Last week, it was 65 degrees with 85% humidity in Cali.

Edit - Just to add, I passed by Little Tokyo, and it looked a bit ghetto too. Right off of I-5.

Thanks!

Dave

^ Yeah xlack found the thread I was goin to refer you to bro. Hahaha. Pretty good info in that one

But in short, Inland Empire/Orange County fits within your guidelines Anywhere in LA/Hollywood/Bel Air = $$$

Oh and it doesn't snow here, only in the high mountains.

Saw that thread, but I am looking at a bit more of a specified response.

For example, in comparison to Miami. Because... I feel The places I visited aren't as luxurious as Miami Beach, with the exception of Beverly Hills and Hollywood, but I'd like some place safe, with the addition of mountain-view. Beach would be nice, but not too much, as I've lived in Miami my whole life.

Also, cost... I can get a Luxury 2 story condo overlooking the Atlantic Ocean for $250,000 here. But I guess the cost of living (and salaries) are much more in Cali ?

Edit - I would be renting. So figure around $1500/month gets you the above, where i'm sure it'd be around $2000 in cali?

Inland Empire - will look into it.

What do you guys think of Irvine and Anaheim? Anaheim gives me an "Orlando, FL" feeling, since Orlando here has Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, etc.

Porter Ranch man. Really nice and new houses, not extremely pricey, and totally peaceful.

It seems like OC is the best place for you to live if you wanna be close to the beach.

im from LA born and raised and been living here in miami 2 years and where i loved to live was BRENTWOOD !!!!! 15 min from BEV hills UCLA santa monica Malibu, so much to do and lots of colleges near by USC UCLA ...etc. few things to consider is cost of living is much higher, i loved brentwood it seemed like the perfect place to be and if you have $$$ you can get a awesome condo there, in comparison to Miami i feel miami you can live on the beach in a high rise with ocean view for a lot less then a condo in LA!!! i love miami cause it's different and like i said i was born and raised in LA and already know what it's like there and had to expeirence life in Miami. i do miss California and will b back but i have to much of a good thing going here (WORK) and cant go just yet.

Honestly if ou were born and raised in MIAMI, you have to go to LA, you will love it. in comparion you have to live in Santa Monica/Brentwood/Westwood area it kind f has that Brickell/coconut groove feel, 15 min from south beach and near key biscayne, and well of course all the nice bars and resteraunts in Brickell that are walking distance. you will b in that same atmosphere as far as access to lots of fun places that are walking distance and lets not forget you will ENJOY YOUR G37S A LOT MORE THERE I USE TO LOVE GETTING ON THE 405 and head up north and you even have san diego not far away Laguna beach ,OC and you will have all the perfomance shops out there close to you ...

Traffic in la is a pain though!!!! florida drivers are way worse than Cali... No offense guys lol, weather is much nicer in cali, and depending where you go in cali it can b dangerous anywhere thats why even if i go back i would have no doubts but to go back to Brentwood!!!

Thanks for all the info guys!

To start off with, I KNOW Miami drivers ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST! Lol no need to clear that one up, its a given, these people can't drive if their life depended on it. LA Traffic IS bad, I went from Anaheim to Hollywood during rush hour - 2 hours and 20 minutes, wow.

BlkHR37S - Thanks for your info, I figured I would love my G37S ALOT more, but wondering if cops are worst over there than here in Miami.

Everyone is saying Brentwood, and I don't even remember passing by there. I will definitely look into it, as that looks like the spot to be.

I know its alot more dangerous in Cali, but I guess you have to learn how everything is - you know - live and learn, experience. If I were to return to FL, I'd bring so much knowledge with me.

Will also look into Porter Ranch. I don't care too much for the beach, just want a mountainous environmental background. Las Vegas would be the place for me if I didn't care about crime and 115 degrees... Came from there last month, I got a sunburn and didnt even notice it, due to 0% humidity.

How long you plan to stay in one area, if schools are important (public or private). Distance to your employment if you must commute. etc. etc. I'd say rent a small temporary place first if possible. Maybe another. Network. You'll find the perfect spot out here.
Do keep in mind, LOTS of higher income people have been leaving the state lately. Could be good news or bad depending on your goals etc. (I'd say most all my friends have left California because I'm here, but, I hear there are other reasons too. :-)

No snow in So Cal. Closest place for snow is 2 hrs, in Big Bear.

Not really sure what you're looking for the most because those cities you named are all over the place. Anaheim is not very close to any mountains. If you want to have a mountain view. Check out Pasadena. Nice place, where the Rose Bowl is. Irvine is nice too ,but not close to any mountain ranges. It's a very well planned city.

Bel Air = $$$$$$$$. Might be a bit out of the price range from the condo price you listed.

I'm working with a couple tomorrow (Real estate) coming from Cali. to Florida. They love it out there, but buying a home out there is really expensive. You can buy a home so cheap right now in Fl it's pretty crazy.
Guess it just depends if you want to rent or buy again.
