If you want, at the end there's a TL;DR. I finally decided that my NA mods were complete and it was time for a tune. I looked around, asked around, and narrowed it down between Powerfab and Jtran. Jtran was closer and came highly recommended. I set up my appointment with Amber, the owner of Jtran, she was very helpful and communicated quickly through email to set up an appointment that was flexible with my schedule. She told me she was having a special on Dyno tunes w/uprev and Osiris and if they couldn't fit me in this month, they'd honor the price in to next month. Today's the day, I brought my car to their shop off veterans memorial, they just moved to a bigger warehouse and it looks like they're already making plans to expand into a paint shop also. I had already used a handheld tuner to put a map on the car and she told me id have to reset it before they could tune. No worries, they'd hold my place until I could go get the tune and come back. I got the tour and they've got plenty of nissan/Infiniti/Subaru cars out here and one wicked looking RX-8. Day at Jtran-image-837425980.jpg I'll post more updates as the day goes. Starting to tune, it's 86 degrees in Houston right now. They're doing the baseline run. Day at Jtran-image-3040410857.jpg

TL;DR

Jtran Studios is a great place with a new location, great and attentive employees, and decent prices. Their tuner is picky (good quality in a tuner) and they can work with tricky schedules. 10/10, will be back.

They did a great job with the tune, they put the performance, valet, and anti-theft maps on, the tuner took the time to explain the dyno sheet and walk me through everything he did. I'm entirely satisfied with my experience. With all the breather mods, I pulled 290 hp max, it pulled steadily all the way to redline, but he said my K&N Intakes were seriously shooting me in the foot. I'm looking around for a set of stillen gen 3's.

I'll be back there for some more work.

Got a before/after dyno sheet? 290 doesn't really tell us much of anything without seeing what the HP/TQ curves look like before and after the tune.

Here's my dyno sheet, like I said, it pulled to a max of 290, but I think a large part of that is due to heat soaking from the short ram intakes. I'm debating between stillen gen3's or takeda air attacks. The differences have been covered in previous threads already.

Thoughts?

Looks good to me. Personally I don't think the $500+ cost for the Stillen Gen 3's are worth the extra 5whp you might pick up. I say enjoy the car and spend that money on other mods like sway bars.

I'm guessing you're running FI HFC and Motordyne E370 from your signature?

My car made 332 whp with Gen3, motordyne intake manifold, art pipes, and exhaust. This is before my aluminum driveshaft.

Is your car auto?

FI HFC's, FI catback, M370 manifold and K&N intakes. Yeah it's an auto. Did you go to Jtran/did you do your pull on a mustang dyno? I've heard that mustang dynos pull lower than dynojets.

Warat (MT) got his tuned by Jtran as well as datboiroy (AT) put down 302whp. Both have same setup just one is auto.

I'm in need of retune from jtran to see where I sit at myself

I guess Gen 3's and test pipes are the way to go.

hmm i just got the k&n's and am happy with them,i really don't think the k&n's are killing you i dont think putting the intakes just a little bit further in the front are going to make much of a difference...can anyone chime in?

Not much of a difference you can feel. It'll just add peace of mind to the owner more than hp. But since you're all talking setups and numbers, I got my car recently tuned with Gen 3s and similar mods and netted 314whp / 275tq. I'll gladly give up a slightly higher peak hp number for more torque.

The tuner told me after he finished that he had trouble tuning to fit the k&n's. He said the short ram style intakes didn't typically do as well as the gen 3's. In his opinion, there were additional forces at work when you lengthen the intake beyond just pulling cold air. He seemed to think that the longer gen 3 geometry has a similar effect to "lengthening the intake manifold". I can see how that would make the manifold longer, but I don't see how that would benefit any hp, he also suggested I switch to test pipes if I ever have problems with my HFC's. That much I believe, my concern was that the engine would throw a code if I had those on there or that it would fail inspection. Since most TP's have an elbow with a bung for the O2 sensor instead of just porting the sensor straight in, it won't throw a code. A little bit of steel wool stuffed in the elbow before screwing in the O2 sensor will also help keep the crap out of the sensor.

I'll take his advice, I'm looking for gen 3 intakes atm, and if I see a set of test pipes for the right price, I may hop on it.

Do you have Dyno sheets to compare? How big a role does your run temperature play?
