Don't get too hung up on this. Remember that a dyno is a tuning tool and not bragging rights. Bragging rights are times at the track.

Also it's been said, take this with a grain of salt, that for every 10º-20º you gain/lose about 1whp/1wtq. Of course temp effects are greater on a boosted application.

This past weekend I installed a new set of Stillen Gen 3 intakes and today I took the G in for a retune at Jtran. As usual, the service was great and they immediately put my car on the dyno. I spent most of the time gawking at all the cars they've got lined up for Import Face-Off, and didn't really pay attention to the work. When they finished the tune, the tuner called me over with a surprised look on his face.

With the new intakes + other mods, I maxed out at 319hp, which is pretty respectable for a N/A G37. In his words, "I was surprised as ****. I just kept feeding it fuel until it leveled off." I'm pretty happy with this result, I just wanted to break 300. I think (tentatively) that my HP increases are going to tail off and I'm finally going to start putting serious work into modding the car for aesthetics. I'm happy with the "go"; now it's time for the "show".

As always, I recommend Jtran for tuning and work. They just opened a paint shop, and I've already got a quote to black out the grille, color match the emblem, color match the fog light trim, and clear coat it. Houston G's should go check them out if you haven't been by in a while.

Yeah. The tuner was surprised. I changed nothing beyond the intakes. My tuners printer was broken so I don't have a hard copy :/ he was supposed to text me a picture, but I have nothing yet. I don't have any particular reason to lie about it, but I wish I had a copy to prove it!

Also, uprev recently released their "timing table" which allows the tuner to advance the timing from as much as 28 degrees to 32 degrees.

Nice #'s, I'm in for a retune myself actually. Also heard Johnny re-calibrate his dyno so your 319 is impressive.

Glad you were able to pull nearly 30whp after the re-tune with Gen 3's. So tired of people saying, oh, why buy them and cut your car for a couple extra whp.

Just installed mine, can't wait to get tuned once I get test pipes. The gains are pretty astonishing, definitely can feel it even untuned.

IMO, the cutting on your car required to do the install isn't any different from putting a lip on or painting stuff. They're all fairly difficult to remove.

Those are some good numbers for those mods... I want to do the same mods for my G to break that 300HP number to the wheels...

Thanks guys, the dyno is at it's heart a diagnostic tool. I am pleased with the performance, but my main pleasure comes from modding my car, not from horsepower. I retuned because I believe in taking full advantage of the mods. The wrench time is what I enjoy; the more complex the better. I agree with Robert, I've met him and his built Z gives him credibility. He definitely knows what he's talking about. Bolt ons have marginal increases (when compared to other cars), mostly because there's no replacement for displacement. I am not ready just yet to go FI, but I'll get there someday, until then, I'm happy with the stillens.

*rolls eyes* you....

Okay, okay. If you have the cash, you can boost the **** out of it

Is this the engine for Mercedes' car that runs some ridiculous amount of boost? 36 psi?
