Editing Classified Ad Responses.

We as sellers should be able to remove cheap *** trolls' responses to our ads.

Or not allow responses on those ads. Offers and comments should be made via PM.

Im getting sick of cheap MFs make dumb *** comments on prices, and arent even buyers.

Best advice I can give you...

Use the report post function and let the mods use the hammer.

BB made it abundantly clear that those kind of disparaging comments will not be tolerated no matter what is being sold.

I can see way too much potential for shenanigans if users are allowed to edit other users' posts in their own classifieds. However if you would prefer to post a classified and have interested parties respond only via PM that can be arranged. I know that users can delete their own posts, but do users not have the ability to close their own thread? If not, feel free to post a classified thread and immediately report the post and tell staff in the comments that you would like it closed.

And as always, if anyone posts BS in a classified thread, click the report post button in the offending post and state the problem in the comments. The staff will deal with it.

I can relate to this.

Current system does suffice IMO. The tattle button works.
The ability for the OP to close the thread, would be an improvement. Seems we've had one-to-many bumped from the grave.

Can a thread starter not close their own thread? I'm honestly not sure.

No, a regular member who is not a moderator or administrator cannot close their own thread. They may delete it however, although I'm not sure if this can be done in all of the forums sections, like the classifieds.

I might add that the ability to delete a thread as a regular member/thread starter is unique to this forum of all the others I visit.

I don't think many members would want to start a for sale thread and immediately have it closed with a message to PM only as a way to thwart responses that irritate them, particularly the ones that tend to bump their for sale thread almost every day.

It is very funny (to me) how most classified posters tend to make a post asking for the thread to be closed once the product is sold etc. instead of and or without using the report button to alert a moderator or administrator to do so, especially when another member chimes in with the same request a week later even though it is not their FS thread, again without using the "report post" button. It becomes obvious this is the case when days/weeks go by without the requested closing ever happening, knowing it would be taken care of promptly if done correctly.

On a side note, it appears to me as though changes such as the one suggested in this thread or others like adding a "like post" button would have to be done by IB themselves as not even forum administrators can do these type of things anymore since IB took over. If this is the case, asking for favors like this within the posting areas is sort of like asking the cashier at the supermarket if they can change the store hours, when instead, it'd need to be addressed to the store owner.

Stop responding to a thread once the item is sold. Thread will close itself by getting bumped down.

Once an item is sold, don't make an additional post saying the item is sold. Instead just edit the OP indicating item is sold/no longer available. Same end effect without bumping up the thread.

Simple.

It's not "simple". In a perfect forum world yes. However, we continue to have People bumping threads that are nearly a year old. Most of the time it says "sold". The idiots still ask... That's why a close thread button would be helpful.

Moderators of the FS forum should peruse it regularly. I don't do it that often. However, it is incumbent on the seller to simply click the report post button on the first post of their thread and inform the staff that they thread can be closed once the item is sold or is on longer up for sale. There are plenty of "sold to me!" or "sold pending payment" posts that mean nothing until the seller says the sale is concluded.

As for as idiot comments in FS threads, I've said it before and I'll say it once more. All anyone has to do is to report the post and it will get handled. That's why that system exists.

If you want to post a FS thread and have buyers only contact you via PM, that's fine too. It may be easier for some to handle their sale that way. For example if your settings are set to email you each time you receive a PM but not to email you anytime a person responds to the thread. Just post the thread and report the post and request that it be closed. It can be reopened if you change your mind.
