Robb, the way the private classified section used to be was similar to the way the vendor classified section is now. Everything was broken into sub-categories.

Its better that way, most of the time we're not searching for anything specific and just want to browse through seeing whats there.

You are still able to browse the marketplace by category using the search panel on the left.

We will be making it more intuitive and adding links when viewing all threads in the forum too.

Robb/Austin,

When attempting to move threads to a different category in the private classifieds, the only available options in the CP are the older original categories, not the newer more specific ones. You might take a look at this too so that they can be moved to the newer more specific categories.

There is only one forum, you can't move threads to re-categorize them. You must edit the first post and change the category in there for the time being.

Of course you would see an increase in usage, the new layout forces users to see every listing first, and then use the search bar in order to narrow results.

So now what I have to do is load up all the FS threads, then go to the search bar and do an empty search for say "engine-exhaust" to get all the exhaust results.

It seems unnecessarily convoluted.
The only feature I like about the new system is the price being displayed along with the thread title so you don't have to open it to see how much it is being sold for.

This layout might be useful for sites like driver that see a lot more classified postings where you have to go back a couple pages to see everything posted in the last week. On this site however, you can see that last months worth of postings on the first page for each subcategory so it's pretty pointless to search unless you want to find threads that are months or years old.

This has nothing to do with me. It was installed above my head. I'm just here to work with you guys to optimize it for the site.

I'm also hardly new, I've been moderating/admining forum sites since 1999. I am responsible for about 50 of them at this point in time.

cheers,
robb

What do you think of the 'clickable' categories right in the threadlist? Helpful?

new is not always good.. the vote is 30-3. i think we should stick to the old layout. we all liked it. why fix something that's not broken or impaired?
