Post whoring and other useless BS

There seems to be a lot of post whoring allowed here for no good reason other than to clutter up some otherwise useful threads. I'm all for letting off steam or joking around, but when a poster is asking a legitimate question or there is a thread covering a topic that could be useful to the communtity I don't feel that it's the place for the same handful of members to turn it into their personal IM conversations.

It's also happened in vendors' threads where certain members took over the thread with things not pertaining to the product the thread was about. Even in a Group Buy thread, some chose to disrespect the vendors who came to our forum and extended us a discount on their product. This really pissed me off.

We have a lounge for off topic discussions that is the designated place for such things. Why is there no "Post ***** you life away thread" to keep it where it belongs? Nobody can complain about a silly post or members posting in those threads relentlessly becuse they are bored or have too much time on thier hands at work or just have no other friends to play with.

Do I stand as the lone grumpy old man in this opinion or does it annoy the hell out of others as well?

Grumpy!! sleep on wrong side? post whorring is apart of any public forum. If you go to driver read some of their threads, my350 etc. Its just the way it is. I know you might be referring to me but i agree on gb threads, let vendors sell their stuff.

And now for something completely different...

Seriously, though. To keep serious about some threads, I think it's all in good fun to divert a little. But excessive off-topic or "joke" posts I think isn't as acceptable. Just as long as it doesn't offend, I think would be okay.

OP, I totally feel you man.

I guess I am just used to Toyota boards where poeple only post when they have something valuable to add.

Here it just seems like every new thread starts with a legit question or comment, and the same 5 people start a side conversation about nothing, and each one posts 5 times. Soon you have a 2-5 page thread about nothing.

I'm not trying to be a post ****, just saying that some people find it nessisary to post in absolutely every thread. Even the regional threads that don't apply to them, AT ALL.

I suppose people are just trying to build up credibility, the same people will be using the "I have 5,000+ posts at myg37.com" line to secure sponsorships and first dibs. But its really bringing down the boards IMO.

Oh, and don't bother reporting it to the mods, they don't seem to mind.

We try to keep the forums as clean as we can but a lot of you like to complain about us being to controlling. I have along with other mods have clean up quite a few threads. We want you guys/gals to have fun but not at the expense of ruining a good thread. Some threads are not as important as other threads such as a thread asking about a comparison on wheels is not going to be looked at the same way a thread on ECU reflash would be. We are doing are best but it is also up to you to report those threads that get out to hand. I know I look at those threads I get emails about. I might not do something when you guys first report it but I will (if something needs to be done) when I see the email. If you don't report these threads then take a look in the mirror as to the reason why some of these threads get out of hand.

Interesting, 2 mods, 2 totally different answers.

I doubt I have reported more than 10 posts ever. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Its not a problem with people fighting or breaking forum rules, but the issue is that a handful of users are seen on every thread and are adding nothing. I mean, and I'm really not trying to start ****, but in the brakes and rotors topic someone asked about bigger rotors, and the reply was "blahhh".

In all honestly, I dont expect it to change. And its really not the mods fault, just sucks that people can't tell the difference between a forum and a chat room.

A 'useful' thread? Where is that of which you speak of?

u can report threads? wtf??

seriously some of you guys should just not read the BS that goes on. A lot of us are here b/c we know one another outside the forums not just in the forums. i work 11 hour days and during those 11 hours i have normally 6 hours of down time. So i keep myself busy. I think some of you take it way to personally and you shouldn't

PS i love how half the people who complain and report threads are not even Premier members, meaning you are just here leeching off others hard work and donations. Become a Prem. Member first b4 starting to complain.
And if hte toyota boards are jmore your taste just post there and read here. These forums again are wound up tight. Mods are doing a great job and half calmed down a lot over the past few weeks.

This is about fun and car people, if you don't know poke fun all the time at one another. coem to one of our meets and you'll see.

i think that wa me who said blahh. maybe b/c i don't like the OP or maybe bc that information is not out. Forums should be a give and take.

What have you (not you gyoza) the poster contributed to the forums? maybe the answers are not here yet b/c people don't know. a lot of threads say ask 1 or 2 people but then they get flamed. if you contribute a lot of useful its only fair you contribute a lot of fun posts.

Or as some of the mods say, if you don't like the forums just don't visit them. no one forcing you to. start your own with your own rules?

like this one here

blaahhhhh
