Getting a new tranny...infiniti sounds fishy.
Only time I hear a whining from mine is when I'm downshifting in to first while coming to a stop. It's kinda hard to get in gear and you hear a whine. Other than that it's fine.
Just a thought, has anyone tried over filling their tranny by half a quart to a quart? Reason I ask is because on the 6spd manual tranny in the trucks the factory recommended fill height is actually a quart lower than it should be. Everyone that over fills their tranny by a quart has noticed smoother shifting, quieter operation, and shops have noticed significantly less wear on synchros and bearings.

UPDATE (not tranny based)
So picked up my car 2 days ago and didn't notice till yesterday that there was a nice about 5 inch dent in my front driver fender and little scrape along the bumper. I know for a fact it happened at the dealership because all i did was drive to work and no one could have hit me there from where i parked.
So i bring it back to infiniti yesterday and luckily they didn't give me any problems. The guy came out looked at it, went inside and came out with a paper, took down my information and said they will call in a week or two when the body shop has an opening and they will get it taking care off.
Like i said luckily they didn't argue with me about it...but point is...MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WHOLE CAR WHEN PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALER.
Obviously someone there knew that they did this...one of the mechanics probably hit something when moving it in or something and just didn't say anything. So make sure to check over your car every time.

EVO-to-G, can you elaborate, in great detail, on your "whine" noise? I'm getting some noise in mine but want to make sure it's the same thing before I unleash fury on my dealership for saying its normal TWICE.
Thanks
Thanks

When I have the clutch pushed in and am trying to put the car in first gear at around 10mph or so it doesn't really wanna go in and you can hear gear whine. Usually a blip on the throttle takes care of it.
when im about to pull in my drive-way i'll put it in 1st and thats about right when the car is almost stopped and its hard to get it in...i can only imagine how much harder it is if your going 10mph...theres no need to do that.
just my opinion.
well first i started hearing the noise as the gears where revving out. i think you can hear it more in the lower gears. And you don't have to be giving it alot of gas...just gradually as the RPM's climb you hear a whining in the backround.
now the best way to hear it, is to do this:
put the car in neutral with the clutch out and start revving it slightly...you should hear a whining noise. Now with it still in neutral put the clutch in...the whining noise should go away.
You can actually put the clutch in and out in the middle of the rev while in neutral and you should be able to hear the whining coming and going as the clutch is either in or out.
i wouldn't be surprised if the dealership said there was nothing wrong the first 2 times because they tried pulling that with me too. The lady called me saying absolutely nothing is wrong and i can pick it up...then i told her i will be there first thing in the morning because i now something is wrong and i don't feel comfortable picking it up. 10 min later she calls me saying that now they hear it and that they will be replacing my tranny and throw out bearing. In only 10 min they went from nothing is wrong...to they reviewed everything and confirmed what was wrong and decdided to replace both under warrenty...to me it seems like they wanted to see if i would pick it up and believe them.
Not to mention when i picked it up they gave it back to me with a nice dent in the fender and scratched bumper. They said they'll fix that too but its taking them over a month till i can bring the damn car in.
i thought i told you a couple posts up your not supposed to downship to 1st when coming to a stop...and theres no reason to put it in 1st if your going 10 mph. Sometimes when im literally going like 2mph i still just put it in 2nd...if your aleady moving theres no reason to put it in first...unless you really want to pull away quick.

Usually when it happens is when I'm coming to a stop at a red light and I know it's about to change green right as I stop or when I'm going up to a stop sign where I know cops hide or when the car in front of me comes to a complete stop. One thing I got to thinking about this weekend, on the vette with the stock shifter, when I would race and shift I would tend to pull farther back than I should have and put pressure on the shift forks and would blow synchros and shift cones and what not. After warrantying it the second time the dealer said to throw a short throw in it to fix that problem. Did that and never had another issue. Wonder if that could be a problem here.
i recently got a new shift **** from TWM Performance and there known for making alot of short-throws so i asked them if they are ever going to come out with a short-throw for the g37 and this is what i got back:
"Thank you for your interest in TWM Performance products. We will develop a
short shifter for the 350Z/G35 in spring of 2009, at this moment we will
also have a look at the G37/370Z to check if the shifter would work in
this model."

I have posted on this issue on another thread - but taking my car in for the 2nd time for the tranny whine - on Monday. 1st time the dealer convinced me that it was normal - but it wasn't as bad as it is now. Something is definately not right.
thats why i said it sounded fishy when i went there and they told me nothing is wrong and then when i say im coming there because i don't want to pick it up they call in 10 min with a different story.
When i posted this people where like..."oh it prob just a mistake and they just overlooked it". Well being 3 people in this thread that got told it wasn't a problem i believe now that infiniti was trying to do the same to me.
But you never know...it could of just been overlooked.
