No you do not need to leave a key in your car.. lol

Sorry man I cant quote you install prices for NY, but I can tell you best buy will do the install here in chicago for $120 plus they warranty the work so if it ever breaks or something goes wrong they will replace the unit and reinstall it free of charge.
