I went to get my car inspected and the attendant said it was to loud ( muffler delete axle back ). Where do you loud exhaust guys in Massachusetts ( Cape Cod area preferable ) go to get your "loud exhaust" inspected???

 

Did he see that you didn't have a muffler and failed you or did he just hear it and tell you it would fail? If you have a failed sticker it may be harder to go elsewhere as they are going to look at why you failed. I'd just make sure the car is heated up and leave it running when you go inside so he doesn't have to hear it start up. Do you still have your muffler? You could throw it back on just for the inspection (I saw that like it's easy in this lovely weather we're having).

No person shall use a muffler cut-out or by-pass. No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

I haven't run into this issue as I've always had a muffler but I did have a guy tell me he was going to fail me cause of my tint. This was my previous car prob 7+ yrs ago and I told him I had the tint for several years and never had a problem. I think I asked the shop to install the legal limit but they didn't factor in the slight factory tint. He said he could give me a rejected sticker and I could have the shop fix it or I can go somewhere else. I appreciated that he gave me the option and I had no interest in removing the tint so I went to a "shady" gas station and the guy there either didn't care or notice and that's where I returned every year.

 

I was able to put the stock muffler back on and it passed....however after that it threw a SES code...…..need to find out what's up. so I put back the noisy on the car. I wonder how all these loud Subaru guys get it inspected unless they put the orig's back on.???
