Tints nyc

The mechanic I usually go to for my inspections has told me that he will not be able to pass me for an inspection if I get tints. To avoid having to remove and reinstall them every year I was wondering if anyone in NYC area knows about a spot where I would be able to go to pass my inspection with tints?

Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.

I would ask for PM on that matter, but Its prob gonna get removed anyways....

I don't know About NY but here in MA they just started using cameras in all inspection station so a lot harder to get way with stuff nowadays

My dealership here in Western NY charged me $30 per window to remove the tint during inspection. It sucks.

However, the rear window can be as dark as you want it to be. Paint it black, if you want.

You can apply for a window tint waiver through NYS DMV if you can get a doctor to state that you or your dependent requires tinted windows for medical reasons. The waiver application is on their website. I applied and I’m waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully I can have legal window tint
