Maryland and their cameras

I was in Maryland two months ago and according to the Maryland Transportation Authority, I ran a toll. How I can possibly run a toll without knowing about it, I'm not certain, but they sent me a picture of my car. The toll was $2.19, and it must be paid within 30 days or it will be $52.19. Baltimore Maryland must be in serious financial trouble to send me a ticket in Kentucky for $2.19. They're probably paying somebody $20.00/hour to process this fee. Curious if anyone else received such a ticket.

Question: does anyone know if Photo blocker works or the spray aerosol that is advertised?

Not sure how Maryland tolls works but here in Dallas, TX area we have tolls that if you're not paying attention you can honestly run through it without knowing. It'll take a picture of your vehicle plates or if you have a tolltag it'd be prepaid at a discount rate.

So if they sent you a picture of your car and your plates why aren't you paying for it? Unless someone took your plates and vehicle and started running through tolls. Photoblocker/Spray aerosol? Are you planning on trying to run through tolls for free?

Of course I'm paying for it, but how can anyone run through a toll without knowing that they ran through a toll? And WHO would run through a $2.19 toll? Just received the notice today already sent the check. As far as Photo blocker and whatever works, if I'm going to be fined for something I cannot recall doing, I would be much happier knowing that if they do take a picture again, it will come out completely distorted. FYI, won't be travelling through Maryland for another 6 months, plenty of time to install the photo blockers.

Yea but as far as I can remember, in TX it's pretty obvious when you're entering the tollway. I don't even remember seeing signs around the toll I "ran" and I consider myself fairly attentive

I guess we'll have to stop drinking and driving at the same time, bummer. . .

Sam Houston Tollway on the east side of Houston, EZ Tag only. There is one single toll station and it's not really a station, it's more a cross-freeway sign looking thing. Inattentive drivers could enter that section and get popped and not ever realize they were on a toll road.

You beat me to it.

It does make things a bit easier. You don't have drivers panicking as they search for change to pay the toll. There are so many visitors traveling through MD, some of the toll booths became death traps...

You probably drove on MD-200 which is a toll road with no booths. Similar things are done throughout the country these days just like the aforementioned ETL.

I agree with the others. Probably drove on the toll not knowing it was a toll road. In Dallas I think its safe to say, we have more toll highways than tax paid freeways. Anyway, the tolls here do not have a booth but rather bill you based on a pic of your license plate.

Which reminds me, I need to go pay my toll bill.

Sounds like you either took MD-200 or I-95 express lane. Neither are worth it, and I don't like that they charge me that petty **** for it either. I take neither.

Every toll road has some sort of indication that tells you that the road charges a toll before you are actually charged. Or an opportunity to exit the road before you are tolled. Perhaps you just missed it?

Many if not most toll roads now have pay by mail options. That allows everyone to use the road if they want to including people who refuse to buy a toll tag. Pay by mail usually costs more. The billing is automated, there's not a human being paid to send those invoices out. As mentioned, here in Houston Sam Houston Tollway now has a number of areas that are toll tag only with no cash lanes. They are working toward making all lanes at all toll stations tag only. Screw the morons who get on the tollway without a tag and cause traffic and congestion while they have have to stop and look for change. The tag costs $15 here but it's good forever and the tolls cost less for tag vehicles than cash tolls. It pays for itself.

Not as bad as NJ Turnpike. Its a fork that said "Ticket", "No Ticket" and didn't understand what the hell it meant. Given, listening to my girlfriend, I took the wrong exit and she had to pay what I think was the max of $12. It could be worse. I would just pay the toll and keep it moving.
