The needle went passed the last line and was partially covering the "E".

good story i have never got that low.I didn't know we had a 20 gallon tank until this year.I would be on e and i guess i still had about 4-5 gallons.I fill up it would only take about 14 gallons from e or fuel light.

LOL the same thing happened to me on my mustang, i was going 60 when all of the sudden it shut off cause of lack of gas, i kept going on Neutral for like 3 blocks lol i was so scared to get stuck...that crap is embarrasing LOL

so is it true that the fuel light starts blinking right before you run out? i've been running real low a couple times this week.

Good to hear you made it, but be careful not to let it happen again if possible. You can really screw things up by running out of fuel. I'm not sure how our car's fuel pump is set up, but in some vehicles the fuel pump is actually cooled by the gasoline, so if you run out of fuel your pump can literally burn up. You can also damage your fuel pump over a period of time if you run close to E between every tank, as you're just overheating it again and again.

That's just one example - I can't believe it would be good for the injectors and other internals either.
